Publisher's Summary

Love is the best defense in New York Times bestselling author Susan Stoker’s explosive Mountain Mercenaries novel.

Gorgeous women don’t just stumble onto Ronan Cross’s remote property. But this one - vulnerable, victimized, and needing the kind of help only Ronan can offer - tells a story that makes his blood boil almost as hot as his need to protect her.

Since her father’s death, Chloe Harris has become a prisoner. Her own brother, a flesh peddler and low-level player in the Denver Mafia, is forcing her to sell her body for an endgame Chloe never saw coming: control over a vast fortune. Her only way out is to run - straight into the arms of the one hard-bodied man she can trust.

Defending Chloe could rain punishment down on the Mountain Mercenaries. Her brother has Mob connections and the local police in his pocket. But Ronan still has an edge - the unshakable loyalty of his deadly teammates. As well as an unquenchable thirst for retribution…and Chloe.

Terrible narrator. Great story.

I would like to give this story 5 stars. The storyline was great and that is the only reason I forced myself to listen to it. Why write great books then use bad narrators.

Not for me...

I found this story to be very light weight and the lead female, Chloe, was so weak. She just let her brother and girlfriend run all over her. And she was OLDER than him (her brother). I was not impressed. Stella did a great job which is why I purchased this one. But I will not be following this series. This story was just not for me.

Great romance!

Another exciting story by Susan Stoker! The heroine in this story is Chloe, who is the daughter of a wealthy man. When her father is murdered, she loses her job and winds up living back at home with her brother who has taken over the family business. After things begin deteriorating when she doesn’t marry any of her brothers friends, he starts forcing her to work in his strip club. The hero meets her when she stumbles to his home one night and asks for the phone to call a ride. He just can’t stop thinking about her and the big bruise she had on her back. When he decides to try to make sure she’s ok, he finds her at the club and finds out she’s being forced to work there against her will. The men of the Mountain Mercenaries go to rescue her. Add in the mafia, her greedy brother and an unknown inheritance and it makes for a lively story. Narration was well done.

Wonderful!

I was looking forward to this book! I was curious about the Mafia mix and I was not disappointed. A lot of action and suspense and terrible family :)
I loved hearing Stella Bloom do Rowan’s accent. That was amazing! She does a wonderful job. Well actually even Rex’s robot voice as well.

Great Book

Wow Defending Chloe is book two in the Mountain Mercenaries series and for me another hit out of the park kind of story. Susan Stoker has an amazing writing ability she just has a way with her storytelling. Stella Bloom has done another great job of narrating this story she just brings the characters to life for me, she just knows how to make the story very interesting and entertaining. In my opinion this is a great story that has suspense, family drama, lies, the mafia and plenty of passion. I absolutely recommend this great book.

Stoker Does it again

Defending Chloe: Mountain Susan Stoker

I buy any Susan Stoker as a pre-order. She is in my top 3 favorite romance authors. Her last book intrigued us to Chloe’s story. Narration was good. This story is twisty and interesting. You will be delighted when the evil villain gets what coming to him.

Small grip: There is one scene that was so non-Susan Stoker. At one point when Chloe is scared of being raped she is concerned about Ronan’s property being tainted or some similar non-feminist crap. Stoker’s women are smart, non-doormat characters. In all of her books I have read/listened to I have never encountered something like this before.

That said, you seriously can not go wrong with Stoker.

Love this book

Oh my goodness, Ronan and Chloe’s story had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. I have to admit my dark side came out near the end and I may have laughed and cheered a little when a certain character gets what’s coming to them.
Action packed, high energy, must keep reading even if you have to ship lunch story. I am loving this series.
