Publisher's Summary

A Wall Street Journal bestseller.

The stakes are personal, hot, and dangerous in New York Times bestselling author Susan Stoker's riveting Mountain Mercenaries novel.

As tough as Everly Adams may be, the Colorado Springs SWAT officer is near a breaking point. Her fifteen-year-old half sister, Elise, has disappeared from Los Angeles without a trace, and the window to find her is closing fast. Committed to the search is Mountain Mercenary Kannon "Ball" Black. He and Everly already have a history - of rubbing each other the wrong way.

Still, Everly has to admit the man is heart-stopping. His brash alpha swagger takes her breath away. And most importantly, as a former Coast Guard first responder, Ball has what it takes to bring Elise home.

Nobody's buying the LAPD's "runaway" theory. And the fear that Elise is the victim of a human trafficking ring is a gut-punch that Everly and Ball can't ignore. If only the trail were that clear cut. Because the one they're following is more insidious and intimately dark than they could have imagined.

Now as the bond between Everly and Ball grows stronger, so does the heat. And as the stakes rise, so does the danger.

You never know where you’ll find your true love..

Every is desperate to find her sister. The cops are no help since they think every teenager is a runaway who will turn up at some point. Once she finds Rex and his gang of mercenaries, she thinks she has a better shot at finding her sister alive, if only the annoying man who hates her didn’t get her all riled up. As a cop, she’s used to dealing with condescending and petty men, but he takes the cake. Unfortunately she need him, so she’ll have to put a cap on her anger and irritation and tap down on the lust. Finding her sister is the most important thing right not. Ball is not happy. He doesn’t want to work with a woman and after his initial response to Everly, she definitely doesn’t want to work with him. Unfortunately, he’s going to have to everything he can to find her sister and bring her back. Now if only he can stop imaging taking her to bed, maybe they can get to work. This was a good story. I wished we had some more dialogue regarding the kidnapping. I mean, so one kidnapped her sister and she was moved to California and enrolled in a new school in less than a month..uh, hello, did we forget there’s a kidnapper out there? Everly and Ball make a good team, once she got the stick out of her butt, and he got over his past issues with women. The climax was sadly non climactic, but it sort of wrapped up the story in a nice tightly bow, Now, onto the next story..I can’t wait to hear about Meat and his story.

Ball and Everly

Defending Everly is similar to the other books in the Mountain Mercenaries series, they all deal with missing women or kids that usually involve human trafficking. Even though the story lines are all similar, I still love reading the books because I absolutely love that the guys go in and rescue whoever they can. This story focuses on Ball and Everly working together to find her younger sister, Elise, when she goes missing in LA. I love how all the guys on the team automatically drew Elise and Everly into their circle and right away started learning sign language, it added a nice connection with all the characters. I am eager and nervous to get to Rex’s story, he has always been the most mysterious and I am so curious to finally get the entire story on him! As always, Stella Bloom did a great job narrating all the characters!

Another Good One Susan❣

Well, as always I have to say Susan Stoker, Another good one here with "Defending Everly." I had no doubt it was going to be Another Winner for You. I've been following your series for over a year now and have not been disappointed with one book yet. I think that I could listen straight through all of them; unfortunately, I just can't afford to do it that way LOL!!! Once again, Stella Bloom gave an xtraordinary performance with her storytelling, she always lets you know where one character ends and another one starts, I love that about her performance. I'm always 1st in line to recommend Susan's books and I do so with this one too! I definitely look forward to the next one in the series. 5-⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ to Ms. Stoker and to Stella Bloom. #AudiobookObsessionReviewer🎧ronigirl

Always loved Susan’s books and now they get better in audio

No matter how many audible books I listen to from Susan stoker, it seems I always end up changing my book boyfriend. I really loved this story of Kannon Black (Ball) and Everly. You have Ball a former coast guard who was burned by not only his mentee who forgot, turned the boat and Ball fell out and got injured and his ex girlfriend who was only in it because of his military career and we have Everly, a kick ass police and SWAT officer in a male dominated environment who has a deaf sister, a druggy mother and two loving grandparents. Elise, Everly's sister is gone after a normal day at school but no one knows where she is. It takes Ball and Everly to try and find clues. Through the story we get the perspective from various characters, Ball being an idiot and Everly trying to suss him out. The book was brilliantly written, the characters where all likeable (well apart from the baddies) and the story flowed through as we were taken on a journey of emotions from the perspective of the family of someone who is missing. My word the ending to the book. I am so looking forward to Meat’s story. Over all another great book in this series and I can’t wait for more.
