If you think your family relationships are complicated, think again: you haven't seen anything like the ones in Bon Temps, Louisiana. Sookie Stackhouse is dealing with a whole host of family problems, ranging from her own kin (a non-human fairy and a telepathic second cousin) demanding a place in her life, to her lover Eric's vampire sire, an ancient being who arrives with Eric's 'brother' in tow at a most inopportune moment.

Story
Welcome to Midnight, Texas, a town with many boarded-up windows and few full-time inhabitants, located at the crossing of Witch Light Road and Davy Road. It's a pretty standard dried-up western town. There's a pawnshop (someone lives in the basement and is seen only at night). There's a diner (people who are just passing through tend not to linger). And there's new resident Manfred Bernardo, who thinks he's found the perfect place to work in private (and who has secrets of his own). Stop at the one traffic light in town, and everything looks normal. Stay awhile, and learn the truth....

Welcome to Midnight, Texas. It's a quiet little town, perched at the junction between Davy Road and Witch Light Road, and it's easy to miss. A Big Step Up from the previous Two Books!
After seeing the series get progressively worse, I found Dead Reckoning to be a truly pleasant surprise. The new information it offered was fascinating, the conflicts were incredibly thrilling, and the story progressed to new and interesting heights. It has left me dying for more and not knowing what will happen next. It’s not one of the best books, but still a great read!

Seemed to be a bridge Novel
I love the Sookie series and am always waiting impatiently till the next one comes out. However, while reading/listening to this one I was always waiting for the book to get to the actually main event... while there is always other things happening throughout the other books there is usually a main event, i.e., Sookie meet Bill, Sookie saved bill, The witch war/saving Eric... etc...
But this book didn’t offer that, it just seemed that it stretched out a bit of an ending to book 10 and laid ground work for a book 12?... No major event happened and there were lots of questions left hanging, like the last few chapters have been ripped out...
Bit of a downer really, but, if you love the series then I'd still get the book, because if there is a book 12 then you'll be left behind in the storyline, like I said, this book seemed to lay the groundwork for the next book.

Please don't shoot the messenger!
So, I hate to be the bearer of bad news and I can only imagine the hours the Mrs. Harris put into this one! I love the southern vampire (sookie) series, but for some reason I can't really relate to Sookie in this one.
Reading this is seeming more and more like homework.
(!Spoiler alert!)
The way Mrs. Harris is laying the foundation for the Sookie-Sam relationship felt forced to me. So much so, that I still can't finish the book! The book begins with constant references to how good Sam is, how Sookie would like to brush his hair, how he defends her, helps her... I don't know, it's making Sam seem even more boring (maybe she should just keep him as a pet). I suppose Sookie will eventually see the light and realize that she has been in love with Sam the whole time. Snore.
I put down 3 stars as a start. As I read I'm taking away or adding stars. Don't hold your breath, though. It's taking me longer than usual to finish this one.
Ah well... I guess I should press play...
BTW. Miss Parker did well, as always.

Great ... But...
I love this series and I was really looking forward to this latest installment, but I found this book lacked something. I had heard this would be one of the last Sookie Stackhouse books and I was hoping that Harris would begin to offer some conclusions to Sookie's story. Instead, the books conclusion is frustratingly ambiguous. I really hope there is another book in the pipeline, Sookie deserves to go out with a bang not parked on the couch watching jeopardy.

Really good read, I truly enjoyed listening to it
First of all the Sookie Stackhouse books are completely different to the well known TV series Trueblood, the scriptwriters have enhanced many characters that are virtually non existent in the books. The books are fairly slow paced but this is def. a Charlaine Harris writing trait. This book was a really good read and the narrator had Sookie down to a fine art. Her lovely southern drawl made the book akin to eating chocolate cake with whipped cream. She alternated her voice for different characters and in doing so brought them to life, especially Pam, her scenes made me giggle out loud. I really recommend this book to readers of the Sookie series and lovers of the supernatural genre.

Truly an experience not to be missed!
Any additional comments?
Everything I read I remember, everything I hear I remember...
So as you can imagine I will consume a book and move on never to return, this series of books however are the only ones I have gone back through multiple times. This is because the characters are so intricately designed they become real, the story lines while based in fantasy from the off never fail to surprise and thoroughly delight. I have never had such an all round almost tactile experience from something that I've read to make me come back to them so often and with that first time read anticipation it's nuts because I remember every word already.
They are utterly hilarious, full of blood-pumping action and downright hot in equal measure with so many more facets that will have you also coming back time and again.
The books do not copy the T.V. Show plot line they are completely different the anchors for both being the familiarity of the main characters but both being superb in their own ways.
A definite BUY IT NOW! you certainly will not regret it.

Not the best in the series
I began growing weary when the fairy thing was introduced a few books back, but Harris was managing to keep a strong hold on the story and characters up to now, so I kept reading. This time the plot has come out so fluffy and uneventful that I'm considering giving up and settling with the tv series. HBO is less corny and there are no undead rock'n'roll kings around to make it look even sillier.

Another Great Read from Harris
I have a confession...I read the Sookie Stackhouse series loooong ago. I devoured the books as a younger reader, I fell in love with characters, I wanted to live in Bon Temps. And that's what I look for in a book at any age. I want to be spirited away from my life and into someone elses. X number of years on, I use the audiobooks to fall asleep to. The stories, whilst imaginative, aren't going to win any literary prizes. The style is "American", it is aimed at younger readers, it does have some laughable lines (the sex scenes will make you cringe) - but I can't help but love them.
