About this listen
New in the sexy paranormal series that put Lora Leigh on the best seller lists.
An erotic thrill ride about genetically altered Breeds with feline DNA-and the humans who arouse their lust.
The runt of the lab she was created in, Dawn Daniels endured years of torture by her pride brother and the council soldiers. Finally freed from her torment, she's now a Breed Enforcer, in control of her own life. Until she's assigned to protect the one man destined to be her mate- and realizes it's far too easy to lose total control.

Narrator doesn’t do this series justice.
Enjoyed listening to this after reading it so many times over the years.
Seth’s betrayal of Dawn, rather than fight for her, is quite a bit stronger in audible. But he is not solely to blame.
Being shown Dawn’s past as he was by Callan, Jonas and Kane and the others was so wrong. Especially as they knew Seth and Dawn had started mating heat.
But having just listened to KISS OF HEAT in audible, Dawn was very definitive about Seth leaving her alone and not pursuing her. And at the beginning of this book, Dawn's Awakening, Dawn is just as resolute to being alone.
Until she realises that after 10 years Seth has moved on and is no longer suffering mating heat.
So I’m not sure what she expected him to do with his life. He is 45 years old and I could understand his need to move on and his wanting children, after waiting in vain for Dawn to come to him for over 10 years.
Even when Dawn turns up on the island as part of a protection detail, after learning of his pending engagement to another woman, Seth still does not ask what she wants. And because of his pending engagement, Dawn finally goes after what she still really doesn't want.
A case of wanting what you cannot have.
The mating heat basically forces these two to become a couple, rather than by their own feelings and decision.
Audible really strengthens the problems between these two.
But I did enjoy how Dawn's past is settled as best it could be.
How did Jason Phelps pass the stringent background check to get onto the island. Someone didn’t do a thorough check.
Some of the voices just came across as wrong to me. I’ve found this in the few other books I’ve listened to as well.
Dane especially sounds more English than South African.
But overall still one of my favourites in this series.
BOOK REVIEW
A mate bond is betrayed but under unusual circumstances and one of the best twists ever is revealed at the end.
Though the whole background story is good and the emotions bought forth by Dawn are heart wrenching, I hated that Seth had been unfaithful.
Whilst I really loved this emotional story of a female breed, Seth’s behaviour at the beginning ruins it slightly but Dawn has to take some blame too for hiding and not going after her mate.
Dawn has gone through the worst that a woman can. Being a Breed female, this is even more destroying.
She knows Seth is her mate but is very scared of the intimate side of a relationship. Before they can strengthen what is there Callan and Jonas interfere.
In the ensuing years after Seth has walked away, Dawn becomes a formidable enforcer but also does nothing to be with Seth, thinking he is attached to her through the mating heat. Why she is so shocked when it has dissipated I do not know.
When she finds out Seth is getting engaged, her primal side comes out.
Seth meets Dawn when she has recently found freedom with other Breeds. She is delicate and timid. He starts to court her knowing it will take a long time to win her over.
Within a short space of time he allows himself to be dissuaded from pursuing Dawn by Callan and Jonas. They show him the tapes of Dawn being raped and tortured. Instead of stepping up to the plate he walks away.
Years pass and he manages to break their weak bond, has sex with other women even though it is uncomfortable, decides he wants children so plans to get engaged to another woman.
At no time does he even talk to Dawn and give her the choice to try a relationship. He just makes these decisions on his own.
I have owned these books for years and reread them often but my earlier reviews are missing.
l've listened to this many times.
