Publisher's Summary

The pulsar...an ancient weapon of unimaginable power, one that threatens the Confederation with total destruction. The Union is preparing for the final invasion, one that cannot fail with the great artifact at the head of their fleet. The clock is ticking quickly toward midnight.

There is a chance to avoid annihilation, a small one. The Confederation has its own ancient device recovered from the Badlands, a stealth generator. It is not as powerful as the pulsar, but it just may be enough.

The generator can hide a single vessel, so Tyler Barron and the crew of Dauntless reunite to take their aging battleship once more into the breach. They will go to the Bottleneck, the system where the Union is preparing the final assault. They must sneak around the vast forces of the Union fleet, into the heart of the massively defended system, and somehow destroy the pulsar.

The fleet will be with them, all the might the Confederation can muster, but success hinges almost entirely on Dauntless' desperate attack. And even if Barron and his people succeed in their mission, they will be trapped behind the enemy fleet, cut off and alone.

Dauntless is book six of the Blood on the Stars series. Blood on the Stars will continue with The White Fleet.

Worst of the series

When you can skip entire chapters because the next chapter does a recap of the previous chapter from a different characters point of view,. the book was too long for the plot and had way too many characters. I personally didn't like the Jake Stockton arc, but that is probably just me.

repeat

how many times do they have to repeat the same things. someone reviewed that it was repeated chapters. I see what you meant now. like in grade school when you had a report to that had to be a thousand words so you would just repeat things ever so slightly differently so you got that thousand words.

Good story but...

It began dragging a lot in the chapters about the battle of the bottleneck, so I skipped about 7 chapters...

Nothing really new at all....sort of shake & bake

I guess I am done with this series until something new happens that because it is sort of bland story anymore.

A great series of books

In this the latest book of this series, we see that the crew of the Dauntless has to face impossible odds. Can they come out on top? Mr Allan has given us the readers and listeners a fast paced ride from book one, and the climax is as expected. Looking forward to more.

An Heroic ending to Dauntless.

Loved it! Andy comes through again to save Tyler Barron as He sends Dauntless to ram and destroy the Pulsar weapon but Dauntless will live on as a bigger more highly technical flag ship.

The Legend Lives On!

And both Jay Allan and Jeffrey Kafer have performed splendidly, as usual! The book is chock full of heroics, villainy, and suspense. Thrilling acts of patriotism and love, hate, atonement, and forgiveness make this a book you’ll have trouble putting down, once you’ve started listening to it. Enjoy!

Space opera for holiday reading

I've followed the series this far but will not continue. Enjoyable, simple page turner but there is not enough going on to maintain interest. Very similar quality to Evan Curries Odyssey One series, which I have also now given up.

The Way is the Way

This is one of those series that you have to follow, and it seems to get better and better, although this last book had some very sad moments.

If you like your sci-fi with full on action, then this series will not disappoint.
