Story
Leadership is not about titles, status and power over people. Leaders are people who hold themselves accountable for recognising the potential in people and ideas and developing that potential. This is an audiobook for everyone who is ready to choose courage over comfort, make a difference and lead. When we dare to lead, we don't pretend to have the right answers; we stay curious and ask the right questions. We don't see power as finite and hoard it; we know that power becomes infinite when we share it and work to align authority and accountability.

Hugh van Cuylenburg was a primary school teacher volunteering in northern India when he had a life-changing realisation: despite the underprivileged community the children were from, they were remarkably positive. By contrast, back in Australia Hugh knew that all too many children struggled with depression, social anxieties and mental illness. His own little sister had been ravaged by anorexia nervosa. How was it that young people he knew at home, who had food, shelter, friends and a loving family, struggled with their mental health, while these kids seemed so contented and resilient?

An average book that has been well marketed and copied content

Publisher's Summary
Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Daring Greatly, written and read by Brené Brown.
Every time we are introduced to someone new, try to be creative or start a difficult conversation, we take a risk. We feel uncertain and exposed. We feel vulnerable. Most of us try to fight those feelings - we strive to appear perfect.
In a powerful new vision, Dr. Brené Brown challenges everything we think we know about vulnerability and dispels the widely accepted myth that it's a weakness. She argues that, in truth, vulnerability is strength, and when we shut ourselves off from vulnerability - from revealing our true selves - we distance ourselves from the experiences that bring purpose and meaning to our lives.
Daring Greatly is the culmination of 12 years of groundbreaking social research across every area of our lives including home, relationships, work and parenting. It is an invitation to be courageous, to show up and let ourselves be seen, even when there are no guarantees. This is vulnerability. This is daring greatly.

A bit too similar to the authors earlier books
I normally love Brene's work but I just couldn't stick this one out. I really enjoy that she narrates her own work which is why I gave 5 stars for performance, but it felt like I was just listening to one of her earlier books as they all have the same message. A real shame as I really enjoyed her other books.
Would no doubt be enjoyed by someone who is new to the authors work.

Addresses painfully important issues
My favourite section is about parenting because it can prevent a bunch of the issues that we have at the education and society culture level. Although at times can get a bit too dramatic in tone for my taste — the subject is dramatic in and of itself — it’s still well worth a read/listen or three.
This ending quote left me hopeful: “Who we are and how we engage with the world are much stronger predictors of how our children will do than what we know about parenting.”

I loved this book. It really struck me deeply. At times I was in tears while listening to it.Sometimes in public while running even. It was an unexpected gem and hit me at a very emotional level. I particularly paid attention to the section on wholehearted parenting. Very good eye opening relatable examples. I like Brene’s hard arse language at times combined with her compassion.

Brene is a researcher meaning that all of her work is, well, researched and corroberated by great deals of evidence. Brene is quite obviously passionate about her work on vulnerability diving into topocs such as love, belonging, connection, living whole heartedly providing great insight and advice for business leaders, teachers and parents. This is a solid manifesto that should be in the library shelves of any person wishing to be the most they can be in life, for themselves and for others. Are you ready to dare greatly? Thank you for helping me to dare myself!
A wonderful insight in understanding really raw moments of weakness and failures in life.
This book and the Netflix show about this book really gave me courage at times when doors were slammed in my face!
It gave me courage to continue, to move forward by taking the next step when broken, regardless of what happened and to perceive the situation more positively and to be wholeheartedly brave!
Also this is a book that parents must reflect upon.
Thank you Brene!

Loved the Ted Talk , loathed the book
Absolutely loved Brené Brown’s Ted Talk and looked forward to more of the same from the audible book. What a disappointment. I get what she’s trying to say about shame and vulnerability but this just seemed to be lots of spurious facts and figures about how shame is the new Oedipus complex mixed with mundane anecdotes from her life. Combined with Brown’s nasalised twang and the compulsory inclusion of the ‘s’ word at least once in every sentence, I found the book almost unlistenable to. I just had to give up.
If you want to read a book that might really help give you a new perspective on life, give this a miss and try Edith Eger’s ‘The Choice’. Eger’s book is an example of how to write an intelligent and completely engaging psychology self-help book.

Brilliant
Brilliant analysis of what it is to be vulnerable, and the difficulties we all have in doing so. A book I will continue to revisit.
