Publisher's Summary

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Daring Greatly, written and read by Brené Brown.

Every time we are introduced to someone new, try to be creative or start a difficult conversation, we take a risk. We feel uncertain and exposed. We feel vulnerable. Most of us try to fight those feelings - we strive to appear perfect.

In a powerful new vision, Dr. Brené Brown challenges everything we think we know about vulnerability and dispels the widely accepted myth that it's a weakness. She argues that, in truth, vulnerability is strength, and when we shut ourselves off from vulnerability - from revealing our true selves - we distance ourselves from the experiences that bring purpose and meaning to our lives.

Daring Greatly is the culmination of 12 years of groundbreaking social research across every area of our lives including home, relationships, work and parenting. It is an invitation to be courageous, to show up and let ourselves be seen, even when there are no guarantees. This is vulnerability. This is daring greatly.

Finally understand shame!

I loved this book. I've just finished listening to it and I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of my hard copy version, which I intend to use as a reference.

I've learned so much about shame, the impact it has had on my life and best of all, I've learned so much about shame resilience. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Life changing

It took to full two listenings of this audible book to really digest entirely; there is so much to absorb and comprehend. Brene’s narration is natural and very easy to listen to. I will strive to dare greatly from now on!

A bit too similar to the authors earlier books

I normally love Brene's work but I just couldn't stick this one out. I really enjoy that she narrates her own work which is why I gave 5 stars for performance, but it felt like I was just listening to one of her earlier books as they all have the same message. A real shame as I really enjoyed her other books.

Would no doubt be enjoyed by someone who is new to the authors work.

I used to believe the myths...

This book has really broken the myths for me. Vulnerability is not my long suit, nor did I think I even “did” vulnerability. Your research seems solid and your words made sense Brene Brown. I will use this in my life now.

I'm so Afraid

It all makes sense...I hope I'm not to far gone in my own life (too selfish) to put Brene study into my life for only one reason... Not for me but for the 2 little humans I'm shaping. My children.
I now have a plan and clear way thanks to this book..
Still afraid.... But I'm gonna go onto the stage, naked and be myself. 💕

A great comfort

This book is a great comfort and tool to help me survive going deaf. It has given me words that help explain and understand what I'm dealing with every day in a hearing world in my sudden unwanted isolation a loss of quality of life.

If you're struggling, read this book!

I read this book after it was recommended to me by my boss shortly after breaking down in front of him. This is a really inspiring book to understand how being vulnerable can be positive, and shouldn't be something you're afraid of. Brené narrates the story with great passion.

This hits home!

I absolutely loved Brené Brown reading her book Daring Greatly! Why? Because it spoke directly into my heart and mind giving me the tools to live a braver life. I am no pussy cat by any stretch of the imagination but this book together with Rising Strong has transformed my way of thinking and being (I was going to say acting, but it’s not an act anymore) for the better. As I implement the principles from these books on a day to day basis my life feels richer and I feel like I’m becoming a truer version on myself. Thank God for Brené Brown!

Loved the Ted Talk , loathed the book

Absolutely loved Brené Brown’s Ted Talk and looked forward to more of the same from the audible book. What a disappointment. I get what she’s trying to say about shame and vulnerability but this just seemed to be lots of spurious facts and figures about how shame is the new Oedipus complex mixed with mundane anecdotes from her life. Combined with Brown’s nasalised twang and the compulsory inclusion of the ‘s’ word at least once in every sentence, I found the book almost unlistenable to. I just had to give up.
If you want to read a book that might really help give you a new perspective on life, give this a miss and try Edith Eger’s ‘The Choice’. Eger’s book is an example of how to write an intelligent and completely engaging psychology self-help book.

Everyone needs to read this book

I usually avoid books like this, but karen and Georgia from the My Favorite Murder podcast have never recommended a book that hasn't been incredible. I thought this would be another 'think yourself happy' book, but it's not at all. If your not sure about reading it, do it, you have nothing to lose and the world would be a much better place if everyone knew what this book teaches you, obviously that isn't going to happen, but it will change the way you see the world, the way you connect with loved ones, children, parents,

Incredible how Brené reaches into your soul!

I loved every single moment of this book! I watched the people and events of my life, flash through my mind, as she explored each topic. I smiled inwardly to myself in knowing that I had learned a lot of these lessons already in life and was following a better path, in how I show up for me and my kids. I haven’t ever found anyone who can capture and speak to my heart as influentially as Brené but that’s because of her vulnerability and her willingness to be honest and open about her and others failings. To know that we are all doing our best and we don’t get it right all the time but showing up with the right intent and asking the right questions is what keeps us on a path to always being better than we were the day before and to continue to Dare Greatly.
I would put this book on a top 10 essential reading list of any and all genres!!! .... Everyone should read this book because we all have a starring role somewhere in it.
Actually, of all the 100’s of books I’ve read, it’s the first of Brené’s that I’ve read and the first book that has compelled me to write a review for it......Thank you Brené! Looking forward to reading your other books now !

Lightening bolt moment

My coach recommended reading Dr Brene Brown last year, but I was reluctant, believing she might be a bit “woo woo”. That couldn’t be further from the truth. The book is founded on research and interviews with real people; as well as her own experiences as a leader and parent.
I lost count of the amount of times I thought, “Christ on a bike, it’s like she’s in my head”. She is a genius.
If you haven’t read this yet, be prepared to feel vulnerable. It’s seriously amazing. Wish I’d read it sooner.

Awesome, just awesome.

Finally understood what "I am enough" means, this book was a follow up for me after "the power of vulnerability". I cannot express my gratitude to Brene for difference this book made to my life.
