Publisher's Summary

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Daring Greatly, written and read by Brené Brown.

Every time we are introduced to someone new, try to be creative or start a difficult conversation, we take a risk. We feel uncertain and exposed. We feel vulnerable. Most of us try to fight those feelings - we strive to appear perfect.

In a powerful new vision, Dr. Brené Brown challenges everything we think we know about vulnerability and dispels the widely accepted myth that it's a weakness. She argues that, in truth, vulnerability is strength, and when we shut ourselves off from vulnerability - from revealing our true selves - we distance ourselves from the experiences that bring purpose and meaning to our lives.

Daring Greatly is the culmination of 12 years of groundbreaking social research across every area of our lives including home, relationships, work and parenting. It is an invitation to be courageous, to show up and let ourselves be seen, even when there are no guarantees. This is vulnerability. This is daring greatly.

A bit too similar to the authors earlier books

I normally love Brene's work but I just couldn't stick this one out. I really enjoy that she narrates her own work which is why I gave 5 stars for performance, but it felt like I was just listening to one of her earlier books as they all have the same message. A real shame as I really enjoyed her other books.

Would no doubt be enjoyed by someone who is new to the authors work.

Finally understand shame!

I loved this book. I've just finished listening to it and I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of my hard copy version, which I intend to use as a reference.

I've learned so much about shame, the impact it has had on my life and best of all, I've learned so much about shame resilience. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Dude.

My friend handed me this book 3 years ago. I avoided it. It didn’t feel right. Maybe I was right about that, and although I’m grateful for having read it now, I can see why she handed it to me then. Just read it, dude.

Excellent

This book helped me let go of my preconceived ideas of how my life should be, stop trying to control every aspect of it and go all in on what I have instead of sitting on the fence emotionally, never choosing a particular path. Highly recommend, particularly if you're at a juncture in your life and have a/some big decisions to make.

I used to believe the myths...

This book has really broken the myths for me. Vulnerability is not my long suit, nor did I think I even “did” vulnerability. Your research seems solid and your words made sense Brene Brown. I will use this in my life now.

Amazing!!!!!

I loved this book so much. I found myself nodding and agreeing with many parts. I saw myself all throughout the book. It has taught me heaps and I will keep coming back to this book as a reference. I choose to dare greatly and be vulnerable. I want this in my life so I can role model it for my children.
Brené speaks so proficiently and makes it so relatable with all her examples and real life stories. Thank you for all your years of study, research and for writing this book!

A great comfort

This book is a great comfort and tool to help me survive going deaf. It has given me words that help explain and understand what I'm dealing with every day in a hearing world in my sudden unwanted isolation a loss of quality of life.

So powerful

I loved this book. It really struck me deeply. At times I was in tears while listening to it.Sometimes in public while running even. It was an unexpected gem and hit me at a very emotional level. I particularly paid attention to the section on wholehearted parenting. Very good eye opening relatable examples. I like Brene’s hard arse language at times combined with her compassion.
I think I will listen to this book again. It seems I have more shame to work through than I realised and I need to shift it. Thanks for writing this book and for all your research!

A must read.

Phew. I cried a few times. I had several Aha moments. Moments I was relieved to have a well detailed explanation of why I have acted or felt certain ways. Some topics I though "nah, not relevant to me" only to find that it is absolutely relevant, this book will force you to introspect, but with compassion. I wish I had read it sooner. So thankful for Brené for sharing her work with us.

Powerful content, passionately shared.

Brene is a researcher meaning that all of her work is, well, researched and corroberated by great deals of evidence. Brene is quite obviously passionate about her work on vulnerability diving into topocs such as love, belonging, connection, living whole heartedly providing great insight and advice for business leaders, teachers and parents. This is a solid manifesto that should be in the library shelves of any person wishing to be the most they can be in life, for themselves and for others. Are you ready to dare greatly? Either way, this book is for you. "Right on dude", great work Brene, I am now off to dare greatly in my life!

If you're struggling, read this book!

I read this book after it was recommended to me by my boss shortly after breaking down in front of him. This is a really inspiring book to understand how being vulnerable can be positive, and shouldn't be something you're afraid of. Brené narrates the story with great passion.

This hits home!

I absolutely loved Brené Brown reading her book Daring Greatly! Why? Because it spoke directly into my heart and mind giving me the tools to live a braver life. I am no pussy cat by any stretch of the imagination but this book together with Rising Strong has transformed my way of thinking and being (I was going to say acting, but it’s not an act anymore) for the better. As I implement the principles from these books on a day to day basis my life feels richer and I feel like I’m becoming a truer version on myself. Thank God for Brené Brown!

Actually life changing!

I listened to 2/3 of this book, loved it so much I started it again, then bought the hard copy too! (Maybe a bit overkill...) It has absolutely changed the way I think about myself and my relationships with pretty much everyone in my life. I can't recommend it enough!!

Thank you for helping me to dare myself!

A wonderful insight in understanding really raw moments of weakness and failures in life.
This book and the Netflix show about this book really gave me courage at times when doors were slammed in my face!
It gave me courage to continue, to move forward by taking the next step when broken, regardless of what happened and to perceive the situation more positively and to be wholeheartedly brave!
Also this is a book that parents must reflect upon.
Thank you Brene!

Author is too focused on herself

Author complains about narcissism and how people are too focused on themselves. However, she talks mostly about herself, achievements and her YouTube ted talk sensation. 3 chapters in and couldn’t not bear listening to the recurring “me” and “I”. This isn’t about you Brené!

Loved the Ted Talk , loathed the book

Absolutely loved Brené Brown’s Ted Talk and looked forward to more of the same from the audible book. What a disappointment. I get what she’s trying to say about shame and vulnerability but this just seemed to be lots of spurious facts and figures about how shame is the new Oedipus complex mixed with mundane anecdotes from her life. Combined with Brown’s nasalised twang and the compulsory inclusion of the ‘s’ word at least once in every sentence, I found the book almost unlistenable to. I just had to give up.
If you want to read a book that might really help give you a new perspective on life, give this a miss and try Edith Eger’s ‘The Choice’. Eger’s book is an example of how to write an intelligent and completely engaging psychology self-help book.
