Publisher's Summary

Deadpool meets Game of Thrones in this thrilling tale of demons, dragons and treachery.

After Breed, a thief-assassin of small renown, is chased by a dragon, tricked by a demon, almost killed by a psychopathic gang boss and hunted by a ferocious spider, life really takes a turn for the worse. Sentenced to five years bonded servitude to a one-handed priest magician, Breed must find the hammer of the ancient hero known only as The Hammer of the North within a year and a day...or else. So, with only a drug-addicted vagrant, a rat-faced child and a timid priest for backup, Breed sets out for the mighty city of Valen and the tomb of the Hammer. What could possibly go wrong?

Grim, dark and funny, Dangerous to Know is the first audiobook in the epic sword and sorcery trilogy The Chronicles of Breed.

When it was first published in 2014, this story was short-listed for the Robert Holdstock, British Fantasy Society, Best Novel Award.

Narrator is awful

This was a struggle not help by the awful narrator, seriously so many times I think it’s dropped out in my car but it’s just him having an unnaturally long pause
The story also took a lot of effort to get into that being said by the end I finally started to get into it so have bought the second book- warning this second also starts slow and painful so I’m hoping it speeds up well
But yeah this narrator-terrible!

Might have been better with a different narrator.

Couldn't finish this book. Was not able to engage with the story at all. Dissappointed

light fun

It's a light and fun story. The narration is a bit odd; there's long pauses where you think the app has stopped and he pronounces some words strangely like "denziens" instead of denizens, and I assume he's trying to say geas but it comes out as gas. But overall I enjoyed it.

Disappointing

I have not been a fan of this book. I couldn’t even get through it. This book seems to lack development of the main character and tries much too hard to be witty and funny but at the expense of plot and a developed character. I’m used to fiction like the powder mage trilogy, the shadow campaigns, and the dagger and the coin. This just pales in comparison to these other titles. Save your credits.

Not exctly what I like.

Just realized that there are different styles of writing and this book seems to be written in what I call single story line. It doesn't split into separate "mini stories" and I just didn't care for it.

Deadpool my a$$

There was nothing funny here, it is a flavorless slog through clotted oatmeal of a storyline. I had to put it away after 3 chapters. Very predictable, no clever humor, basically a snoozefest. if i can find a way to get my money back, I'm willing to call it even.

The advertisers owe some apologies

You, like me, may be looking at this title under the impression that the glowing review of "Deadpool meets Game of Thrones" meant what it said. Let me assure you, whoever wrote that hasn't read Game of Thrones nor have they read Deadpool. Despite that major disappointment, I was prepared to give it the benefit of the doubt. That was a mistake. Clumsy cursing to sound edgey, flat characters, and an aggravating tendency to explain in detail what is easily understood while failing to explain important part of the world around the characters (such as what the heck a thossian is, something the main character is a half breed of). It isn't funny, it isn't clever, it is a painfully bare bones dark fantasy novel that isn't worth your time or money.

narrator isn't bad, this is bad editing.

I feel like this narrator does a fine job. The akward pauses could easily be edited out.

Unlistenable

The narrator has stopped me from listening to this book.

The writing might be great, the story could be a classic, I will never know because I'd rather rip my ears off than listen to this.

The overly long pauses, the monotone delivery, the awful pronunciation!

I had this on 1.15% listening speed and the breaks in narration were still like chasms between clauses.

Sorry, but a child reading in a school assembly in front of parents is easier to follow than this.

Disappointed

Promoted as something in the league of "The Dresden Files" and Joe Abercrombies stories this was highly overrated. Waste of credits. No depth in characters, no clever conversation, no raw violence, no grit, no nothing really. I didn't even get interested in exploring the different races presented in the book.
Felt like any off the shelf young adult fantasy.

Overall Good, bad editing.

Great sorry, audiobook has sloppy editing with large quiet gaps in conversations. It leaves you wondering if the audiobook has stopped playing or not, and often kills the flow in the excellently written witty back and forths.

couldn't finish it

After four hours I gave up. I found the main character too annoying, nothing like Deadpool. Also, the narrator leaves too long of a pause between sentences and I found that annoying and distracting.

Fantastic swearing

Narrator was a little high pitched, but I have just come from listening to Steven fry who is fantastic so it's a high bar to clear. The story was great, fantasy adventure with great world building. Its almost just listening to this for the creative swear words and phrases. Some of which are now in my more frequented vocabulary store.

Excellent, a funny fantasy novel

The style of reading has a unique tempo that takes some getting used to but becomes integral to the feel of the characters. Accents add to well rounded and sometimes very funny character creation and story.
