Publisher's Summary

Cross: I'm the guy whose name brings fear into the hearts of even the hardest men. They call me Cross because I've killed enough men to fill a cemetery, and I never saw any problem with that. Until a woman I hardly remember brought my 11-year-old daughter that I didn't know existed to my doorstep and left her for me to take care of.

At first, my daughter was a complication I didn't need, but now I'll do everything I can to raise her right. I'll even stay away from her hot-as-sin guidance counselor Roxanne, who makes me feel like I'm 20 again, and not pushing 40. Which isn't to say I wouldn't show her what a real man can do with a woman like her.

Roxie: My father was the president of an outlaw MC, and until I turned 21, a world of bikers, mayhem, and crime was all I knew. Then a rival gang destroyed it all, killed my family and everyone I held dear, and made me the property of a brutal, ruthless man. I ran away, got an education, and haven't looked back.

Now I'm the guidance counselor at a small-town junior high school, my old life so far behind me it might as well be someone else's past, and I was happy to leave it there. But then I met Cross, the bad-boy biker father of one of my wayward students. He makes me yearn for the life I lost, crave all the excitement that used to be my everyday. Makes me want to be a bad girl again, if only for one night. But I won't go down that road again. It doesn't lead anywhere good.

Contains mature themes.

Great listening

This book is quite good listening, never boring and I had to listen to the end all in one day. The characters were well written and lots of love and intrigue.

Good chemistry, flawed hero

I liked the chemistry between the main couple and I even liked the storyline and back stories of the characters. Narration was good too.
But the hero is an objectively terrible dad and he doesn’t try that hard to be better and we don’t get to see that resolve really. The hero is also in my opinion a bit racist against native Americans, there is a scene where he tells his daughter she can’t wear a feather in her hair even though it was culturally important to her and it was so sad to see him hurt his daughter like that. I could have got past it if he had him spent some time to understand his daughter’s culture but he didn’t. In the end it felt like the daughter and her culture were just used as a plot device to get the heroine and hero together and there was no care or progression for her character.
The story would have been better if there was no daughter or if they showed some character development for the dad actually putting work into understanding his daughter and her culture on a deeper level.
I also felt like the heroine didn’t treat the daughter very well either. For a guidance councillor she did not display very good skills or insight into how to speak to a traumatised teen. Very bizarre. I would have liked to see more binding or care from the heroine. Instead the heroine seems to just project her own trauma into the poor girl and not really see or hear her.
Anyway I don’t mean to nitpick but the daughter was just such a big part of the set up of the book. Even if the romance is great, you still have to resolve the plot lines of the main parts of the story and I hate to see Native American characters used as just a plot device but not given any proper respect or attention or understanding by the other characters.

first MC book I've listened to. it was good<br />

I love learning about the other members..in other words...a series. I normally
have listened to band members.
Ms Bourne does it well and I'm looking forward to the other stories.
Aiden snow OMG you voice is fast becoming equal with Sebastian. loooove the gravel.
Ms Stephanie you did a great job at keeping Roxy's softness which is how the character was meant to be ..in my opinion that is. setting the yin and yang with cross and being a mum to Lily.
interesting how tanks story will be fleshed out....with the depiction of the heroine as
stephanie's voice
