Publisher's Summary

Martial cultivators, flying swords, and magic talismans.

Life for Cha Ming is a daily grind. A rat race where people don’t make any real decisions. When he asks the universe for something more, fate itself answers his prayer. A talisman brush older than time itself sends him to another world, where magic, fortune, and danger await. Now, the world is at his fingertips. He has a new life, a new body, and can wield the five elements. It’s too bad his new home is a place where might makes right, and immortal cultivators and demons fight at the drop of a hat. But where the divine brush goes, danger follows. As its wielder, Cha Ming can’t stay out of trouble. There are many who seek the Clear Sky Brush, and they’ll stop at nothing to find it....

Clear Sky

A well written adventure and instructive tale about ambition friendship and bravery. Quite an education of some cultural values of the people's in this part of the world of South East Asia and I found it very illuminating. The writer reveals a mastery of his subject and manages to entertain with his wit and humour. Well performed too.

Enjoyable

A departure from typical western fantasy, I enjoyed the Asian theme. I see some criticism of the narrator, people saying it’s “Flat” but I believe it is a great match for the Genre. Calm, articulate and “Zen”. An elder telling a story in an almost ritualistic semi formal manner.

It picks up

At first I thought the narration was a bit flat but I'm glad I kept listing as the story does pick up after Cha Ming saves his fox brother, and as someone who's up to book 16 I can say my favorite character is Yama who is trying to keep the Universe together that Reaper Really needs a vacation.

Story is vague and far too easy. Narration disappointing

Vague time, weight and distance units used without comparison. Very fast paced. The Chinese names makes it impossible for me to remember who is who, all sounds the same. The narrator is very softly spoken with minimal inflection. All in all the book puts in mind a lacklustre hero story walking a straight golden road

Starts ok but in the end boring...

At the end of where I got to, It felt like they'd just seen another book and copied sections while trying to make it different but lazily, I got through the first and tried the second thinking it might get better but returned it. For me there's just too much lacking in over all plot development nothing really actually happens and when it does it's not that fulfilling there is no depth compared to everything else that is out there. Cool that some people like it, but I would reccomend looking elsewhere.
