About this listen

The world has fallen to a relentless enemy beyond reason or mercy. With no remorse they rend the planet with tooth and nail. One man stands against the scourge of death that consumes all. Teamed with a genius survivalist and a teenage girl, he must flee the teeming dead, the evils of humans left unchecked, and those that would seek to use him. Still loving the references and asides from main characters. Looking forward to the next in series.

More zombies

Very easy to listen to and entertaining story line. Main character is very likeable. Narrator is very good.

Entertaining

It’s not K C Blackmore but it’s certainly better then plenty of Z dystopian novel about.
Has some believable characters (e.g not super soldiers) and plenty of action. The action is solid and the pov style of the main character is different and amusing at times but obviously won’t be everyone’s cup of tea.
Couldn’t help think it lacked an over arching plot but this pick up latter.
Will give the sequel a go.

Solid Z story with some humour included

Ok, so I listened to this series on Audible. It’s a fun, enjoyable zombie romp and I was enjoying it for what it was - an entertaining popcorn series to listen to while driving etc. Based on the first three books, I would not have hesitated to recommend this series for people who enjoy this type of read (/listen). Sure, each book is kids of a replay of the previous (good guy meets people, travel together, find a home, some die, some move on, rinse and repeat), but it’s fun and hopefully moving towards a final resolution for our characters, and for us as readers to understand what caused the zombie outbreak, and a glimpse of where the world will head next.

Unfortunately, I’ve just finished Book 4 and it let me down.

First, an unexpected change of narrator for the audiobook. I don’t love when that happens, but it can be out of everyone’s control, so I prepared to re-adjust my ears and soldier on. I’m not sure if the new narrator didn’t listen to previous books, or what happened, but there was a very big change in the “way” some characters were voiced, and it was distracting and didn’t “fit”. Again, this can be out of everyone’s control, and the narrator wasn’t bad, just not a good fit to the first three books. I got through the rest of the book, but my enjoyment was definitely reduced.

Another change was in the POV of the story itself. The first three books are almost exclusively from one POV, and our snarky MC grew on me, and I (mostly) enjoyed hearing from him. Book 4 became much more of an alternating viewpoint almost chapter to chapter - sometimes from our MC, other times bouncing around to other parts of the action. Again, not necessarily a bad thing, but a jarring change compared to the first three books.

Finally, and here’s a really important thing I didn’t realise when starting this series, IT IS NOT FINISHED!
Book 4 finishes on a cliffhanger. It was published in early 2023 on Audible and there is no mention of a sequel anywhere on the author’s website etc at the time I wrote this review. So, I have finished Book 4 with no answers about what caused this zombie plague, and with some of our characters in peril. And that’s it. Ouch. Not a fun ending.

My conclusion? I wish I hadn’t started this series, because there is no ending. If more books come, I’m not sure I will take them in with the new narrator, and definitely not unless I know the series is definitely concluded.

I like the authors sense of humor. Recommend. Not the standard Zombie read. Will continue the series.

Great Start to a series

The story wasn’t too bad. But the constant stupid humour and pointed comments to the reader was annoying, just plain frustrating and not the slightest bit funny .. but even a smile broke through the whole book and I could barely finish listening to the book.

Terrible book
