About this listen
An Astra Militarum novel.
Colonel Haskell 'Hell Fist' Aldalon and the Catachan 57th Jungle Fighters arrive on Gondwa VI, a world ravaged by greenskins. The Catachans prepare to go on the offensive, but can they retake a vital outpost when saddled with the barely-trained Trooper Torvin—the last survivor of the Skadi Second Infantry?
Listen to it because....
Get up close and personal with the ruthless Catachan Jungle Fighters as they prepare to give up everything in order to claim victory.
The story:
When Colonel Haskell 'Hell Fist' Aldalon and the Catachan 57th Jungle Fighters arrive on the quagmire world of Gondwa VI, they find it locked in the grip of an ever-growing greenskin threat. Rather than shoring up the meagre existing defences, the Catachans elect to go on the offensive and retake the strategically vital Outpost Four. In the process, they are saddled with the sole survivor of the outpost's fall—the barely trained Trooper Torvin, of the Skadi Second Infantry.
As the Astra Militarum clash with savage orks and Colonel Aldalon comes to terms with the cost of victory, Torvin finds himself under suspicion of cowardice by the Jungle Fighters. The young trooper's new comrades may be just as dangerous to him as the xenos marauders...unless, that is, he can pass through this trial by fire and earn the respect of the Catachan Devils.

Surprised that story wise they didn't really lean into the fact that the catachan are muscle bound and strong beyond normality, it was more subtle in the fact they just go "yep knives out, go chop orks up".
Very nice story

The narrator performs the Ork characters amazingly which are written by the author absolutely hilariously.
The narration of the lead Catachan character (based on the description and cover art) was a bit of a letdown, as was the writing of his character.
Interestingly the narration of the character starts off fairly solid, but as the story progresses it slowly degrades to a "typical gruff white British male" tone which doesn't really match up.
Similarly, the arcs of the main Catachan character and supporting Militarum character is a bit of a letdown given the Catachan reputation (described even within this story) and come out feeling almost "Disney" in tone, where I would have preferred a much darker / serious storyline for the Catachans. However, in the context of this particular "comedic" story, it's not so bad.
Overall I definitely don't regret the purchase, and genuinely looking forward to seeing more of Nogrok Sneakyguts which was the star of the show for me. That said, I really hope the Catachans get a darker treatment with more depth at some point similar to the amazing "ominbus" sets that entities such as Fabius Bile, Night Lords, Word Bearers, etc have received.
Entertaining in the classic "dark comedy" 40K way

Narrators voice really grows on you and he makes the characters (especially orks ) quite dynamic and with personality.
Recommended for any Guard or Ork fans.
Gripping

Details says it's narrated by Garerh Armstrong which is wrong.
The volume of the narration is terrible - too quiet at points then suddenly hugely high volume when characters are speaking. The performance is quite poor as well compared to other Black Library readers such as Toby Longworth or Johnathan Keeble.
All in all, not worth the credit spent on it.
Disappointing
