Publisher's Summary
A Warhammer 40,000 Novel
The renegade leader of the Red Corsairs must adapt to an Imperium led by Roboute Guilliman, all while struggling to retain power in the face of dissension among his vicious followers.
Listen because...
See how the galaxy has changed for the Red Corsairs after the Great Rift, through the eyes of their infamous reaving leader—Huron Blackheart—who once preyed freely on a weakened Imperium.
The story:
Huron Blackheart is the lord of the Red Corsairs, master of the lawless Maelstrom and its piratical denizens—but oathbreakers and renegades can seldom rely on the loyalty of their followers. With the galaxy thrown into turmoil by the return of Roboute Guilliman, the former Tyrant of Badab faces a renewed Imperium and fresh challengers emerging within his own ranks. Huron must call on every trick he knows to stay in control—and alive. Yet even a warrior as ferocious and opportunistic as the Blood Reaver must be wary, for although there are many bargains he can strike, all power comes at a price....
Written by Mike Brooks. Narrated by Andrew Wincott. Running time 6 hours and 24 minutes.

Ok Book but Wincott's Narration Is Outstanding!
Most of the book is written in present tense and Andrew Wincott makes something that would be boring to read to something outstanding to listen to. Also Love how Andrew ended the novel. As for the story it's ok and what happens on the Macragge's Honour is interesting but only getting teased with the attack on Chogoris feels like a missed opportunity.

Middle of the Road Waryhammer book.
A bit of background fluff for an under utlized character in the wider warhammer 40,000 universe, as well as some wider plot hole filling. Not compelling in its own right, it is still workman like in the plot. Considering how balmy/non-sensical some books of the books get (like the Mephiston books), thats a compliment. Charaveters are defined, and clear if not particularly compelling or deep. Plot is reasonable and easy to follow if a bit stright forward and slow. Nothing happens that doesnt make sense.
As always with this series, narration is A+. Great stuff there. Even if not compelling in itself, this is worth listneing to in the background while doing something else, with the bass rumblings of Wincott.
All in all, worth listening to if youre a only fan of Warhammer 40,0000's chaos faction. Not for the unintiated in the lore, and not really for people prefer other factions. c+

Simply Awesome
Honestly one of the best WH books I’ve read in awhile, and easily better than most of the post-rift Primaris books. It’s not a long book but the pacing is good and it doesn’t get bogged down. It also covers some major events and advances the overall story. Unlike many WH books it’s not a bait and switch where most of the POV isn’t even the main character. The only other character is a magos that’s pretty interesting. I think the interplay between traitor marines is particularly well done also. The narration by Andrew Wincott is fantastic for traitor marines, he’s easily a new favorite. Definitely don’t pass this one up!

An excellent exploration of Huron Blackheart
This book goes largely into the structure, or lack there of, in the Red Corsairs. Luft heron is still the tough old bastard that made it half out of the Badab war. This book even hints at the possibility of the Red Corsairs regaining control of their Blackstone Fortress.

Good old Chaos Marine story
It's hard to do a compelling villain story, but Mike Brooks pulls it off. Another review called it "Middle of the Road", and in a way it is, but it manages to be compelling at the same time. Huron is a good villain that pulls off being a bastard, but one that is smart at the same time and earns his wins. I recommend this one.

Great Narrator! Short and decent story.
Chaos Space Marine leadership can be cutthroat and be on constant guard. It felt like Huron had to play too many mind games either to avoid petty slights or give petty slights back to his subordinates. It made it seem that his position of power was just one small mistake of words to those under him that it kind of robbed him of any power or influence to make him as cool as he could of been. There were some cool parts but it just seemed like he was constantly worried to me that took away from him being as charismatic of a leader as I thought of him before I listened to the book. Book was kind of short. Narrator was great! I will be on the look out for if he narrates any other black library novels.

Huron is the main character!
I was expecting this to be another bait and switch novel, but ya boi Huron is definitively the main character. Lots of insight of the Hurons wants, motivations, inner thoughts, and drives. The story was a tease and felt more like a tie up of loose ends however, I would not hesitate to get another Huron novel from this author again. The stage was set for a story that could easily cover two or three additional novels. If you became a Huron fan following the second novel of the Night lords trilogy this author does a good job keeping true to that representation.

Space Captain Barbosa
Huron is Captain Barbosa in the 40k universe being irresistibly, pragmatically wicked. Listened to the whole thing at once because it was just too good to stop. It's a real breath of fresh, warp tainted air to have a story from the perspective of renegades rather than one of the original legions.

THE BEST WARHAMMER BOOK EVER
Seriously, friends and fanboys... I have read easily close to 200 of the warhammer books or more depending on how you count ... it's like a guilty pleasure and a strange sickness combined ... so I have years of perspective and comparatives ...
I think to date, this is my favourite book and telling of all ... more than Ragar Blackmane, more than Gotrek and Felix, more then Eisenhorn and Ravenor, more than Ventris, Honsou, the Soul Drinkers, all 54 booked of the Heresy, the prequel Primarch books (though Curze was good too) ...
A great new series!!!

The tyrant of Badab is back! And he is glorious!!
The writing kept me sucked in from start to finish and the way hurons character is expressed is quite different from your standard chaos villains. It doesn't seem like anything too big happens and is more of a book to show who huron is and his current actions in the time line. Exploring his thoughts and seeing the red corsairs in their purest form. I couldn't finish this review without saying how good the voice actor is. Astounding job with this book. My only complaint...... Short book in comparison to others from black library.
