About this listen

An epic first-contact story on a galactic scale.

Humans have reached the stars. There is no evidence any other species survived its own sentience long enough to do the same. Until now, when the Magellanix deep-space scout Accipiter discovers the Artifact, a million-year-old alien construct resting in a dormant volcano on a faraway world.

Now, TransGalactic has sent the Carpathia to steal it. Two ships, two rival corporations, and a race only one of them can win.

The stakes are greater than they seem. The Artifact is more than just a technological marvel. It holds the key to humanity's survival, and—perhaps—an understanding of our place in the universe at last.

Very well written, complex and gripping. A stand out. I hope the author writes many more

Most sci-fi is derivative drivel, or at least much of the modern stuff is. Here the author has built on the familiar until it is strange, weaving in great world building but still letting the extremely well constructed characters lead the way. 5/5 without hesitation (also because the narrator is brilliant too)

Finally - great sci-fi

People in the story behaved in extreme ways for the thinnest of reasons. And the writer wasn't able to make the looming threats or foreboding work so the whole story was rather flat. Some of the characters side stories were more interesting and would have made better books.

It wasn't a dreadful story - I just wasn't a fan.
