Publisher's Summary

For the past year, Chloe St. John has been working as a K-9 cop with her German shepherd partner, Hank. After being dumped by her fiance for another woman, Chloe has decided Hank is just about the only male she likes. She's over the whole romance thing and focuses her attention on doing her job because a serious case of human trafficking with connections to her missing cousin just landed in her lap.

When US Marshall Blake MacCallum's daughter goes missing, he's ordered to kill the judge he's protecting and tell no one about his daughter's disappearance or she will die. Blake races against the clock to rescue his daughter while Chloe and Hank are asked to be a part of the task force assembled to bring down the traffickers.

Chloe finds herself attracted to the silent, suffering man, but thanks to her previous bad judgment, she wonders if she can trust him. And can Blake trust himself around this firecracker of a woman?

Love the book, very poor editing almost ruined it!

A tough subject to tackle and one that is as truly heartwrenching as this one could have been very ugly but it was done with compassion and not a lot of gory detail which I appreciate.

I love listening to Lynette Eason's books, I think I have almost everything she has written and I will continue to buy them but PLEASE have someone work on the editing. It was truly painful to hear all of the stilted sentences. word ... break ... word word word ... break ... word ... break. I would have returned it but I did listen because it was a good story and I would feel guilty.
I really hope they re-edit so no one else has to listen like this, I even tried 1.25 and 1.5 but that didn't help. I stuck with 1.25 to finish. This must be an editing issue because I have listened to this narrator before and she is great!

Awkward transitions in flow

Awkward transition in flow of dialog when a person is being addressed: I.e. “Thanks......Mom.”

Great story and the rest of the performance is good: good inflection and appropriate emotional feeling.

Excellent and filled with suspense.

I usually have an audio book I can listen in the car when commuting to work, this one grabbed me and I couldn’t stop listening when I arrived home....so in less than 24 hrs I finished it and wasn’t disappointed. I can’t wait for the next one to be available.

heavy subject

if you are not aware of the horrors of human trafficking, you soon will be. if it has not touched your life or that of someone you love, it likely will at some point.

Rising action

I enjoyed the detective story details and canine officer. the relationships added the right amount of motivation. The reader had a halting phrasing which was not my favorite part.

human trafficing theme

I don't care for this theme of human trafficing. I'm aware it happens but it's really uncomfortable hearing too much about it.
