About this listen
Random House presents the audiobook edition of Burnout by Amelia Nagoski and Emily Nagoski, read by Emily Nagoski.
This groundbreaking book explains why women experience burnout differently than men - and provides a simple, science-based plan to help women minimize stress, manage emotions and live a more joyful life.
The gap between what it's really like to be a woman and what people expect women to be is a primary cause of burnout, because we exhaust ourselves trying to close the space between the two. How can you 'love your body' when everything around you tells you you're inadequate? How do you 'lean in' at work when you're already giving 110% and aren't recognized for it? How can you live happily and healthily in a world that is constantly telling you you're too fat, too needy, too noisy and too selfish? Sisters Emily Nagoski, Ph.D., the bestselling author of Come as You Are, and Amelia Nagoski, DMA, are here to help end the cycle of overwhelm and exhaustion, and confront the obstacles that stand between women and well-being. With insights from the latest science, prescriptive advice, and helpful worksheets and exercises, Burnout reveals:
* what you can do to complete the biological stress cycle - and return your body to a state of relaxation.
* how to manage the 'monitor' in your brain that regulates the emotion of frustration.
* how the Bikini Industrial Complex makes it difficult for women to love their bodies - and how to fight back.
* why rest, human connection, and befriending your inner critic are key to recovering from and preventing burnout.
Eye-opening, compassionate and optimistic, Burnout will completely transform the way we think about and manage stress, empowering women to thrive under pressure and enjoy meaningful yet balanced lives. All women will find something transformative in these pages - and be empowered to create positive and lasting change.

This changed the way I think about stress
This audiobook is honest and insightful. It was so important that Emily and Amelia called out the patriarchy, white supremacy and othet BS that makes the world unfair, weaved in related stories to demonstrate their points and gave concrete tips for completing the stress cycle. They made dealing with stress feel like your own personal revolution. Everyone who struggles with stress needs to read this.

Highly recommend
I love that Emily and Amelia address the experience of women and how burnout/human giver syndrome affect us disproportionately. A very honest and accurate reflection on why we’re all so stressed.
I’m a nurse and found this book very helpful and have already recommended it to a few of my colleagues that struggle with stress.
I really like hearing Emily too, I enjoy listening to authors narrate their own books, I can hear when they become passionate about certain points.

Smart and heartfelt
I enjoyed this book for the framework it gives for women to consider their roles and the expectations upon them and how these things impact upon us and our interactions with ourselves and others. Plenty of science, plenty of warmth.

The right amount of everything
This was by far my favourite book about stress and burnout. The narrators were great, and it was easy to listen to and very engaging. It was evidence based but did not feel like a text book, and it offered practical strategies with good explanations of how and why the stratgies work. Not just your typical get more sleep and exercise more... this book even addresses what you can do if exercise is not an option for you. Hellooooo accessibility and inclusion! If you're reading reviews to see if this book is the right choice for you - dont hesitate - you wont regret it!
