Publisher's Summary

“She was unraveling me, slowly but surely. I could feel it happening. Like she was gently unbuttoning the collar of a shirt that fit too tight.”

Single-minded drive earned Roland Miles success - and cost him his first love. When his marriage to Zoe ended, he did the only thing he knew. He dove into work to put his heartbreak behind him.

Zoe Sutton’s life hasn’t exactly gone to plan. She certainly didn’t plan on losing Roland or moving home to work for his family’s winery. Four years after their divorce, she wonders if her chance at happily ever after is behind her.

After discovering his family might lose their land, Roland comes home to help sort out the mess. But between his brothers’ antics, a baby sister who’s all grown up, and a father keeping secrets, complicated isn’t even the half of it.

And then there’s Zoe.

He didn’t come home looking for a second chance with her. But the more time they spend together, the more he realizes what they lost. What they could have again.

Because the truth is they broke each other’s hearts - and maybe they’re the only ones who can put them back together.

Author’s note: A stoic hero who’s soft on the inside. A sassy heroine who doesn’t take any shit. Messy family. Lots of shenanigans. Mattress-burning bonfires. And a second chance at love with a big HEA.

The Miles Family series is best enjoyed in order.

great listen

first time I've listened to this author. I'm normally a black ops, navy seal mission type of listener but thought I'd take a break. I liked the story and the knowledge of how a winery works was great. I laughed with Cooper and chase and was pulled along with the hero and heroine.
I liked the opening for Shannon.....which is later in the series and the little twist at the end.
Maxine Mitchell is so good at male/female voices, one of the few. Joe Arden I've listened to heaps of times and is always good at claiming his character.
the fact that introspection by both main characters led us to the end was clever of Ms Kingsley as it didn't go flat or flakey. it simply showed a couples need communication.
I'll read more but back to black ops/ lynne raye Harris and Susan stoker for now

Finding Your Way Back Home

It's not often that I read romances featuring married couples. It's even more rare when it's a second chance romance between the divorced couple. Interconnected family series are always favorites for me and the Miles family has some amazing characters that I can't wait to find out more about. Broken Miles is Roland's story and it was such a funny and entertaining romance. Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell were fantastic! Both showed their versatility and talent, voicing both male and female characters with ease. They were also able to convey so much emotion in their performances.

Making second chance romances believable and keeping the characters likeable is always a little tricky, but Claire Kingsley did an amazing job. Roland and Zoe's journey was at times frustrating, but it was also understandable and relatable. There's a lot of history between them and though I wanted them to hash things out and just talk to each other openly and honestly from the start, I could see how hard it could be to do that. Both have been hurt and are feeling vulnerable, so giving that much power to someone again is terrifying. I appreciated that they acknowledged the mistakes of the past though and actively worked to not repeat them. There's some delicious build up between these two and their sexual chemistry was scorching. Zoe was no wallflower, and I loved that she spoke her mind and didn't hold back. The epilogue (and bonus epilogue!) were sweet and hopeful and brought everything full circle for Roland and Zoe.

Family and sibling relationships play a huge role in the story and I have to say that Cooper (and Chase) often stole the show any time they made appearances. The things Cooper said had me laughing out loud several times and he was the perfect shot of comic relief. I'm excited to dive into the rest of this series (especially after the big family bombshell was dropped) and see how things play out for the rest of the Miles family.

This is a DNF for me

The story was juvenile. These thirty year olds act like immature college kids. The solution to every problem? Sex and alcohol of course. The dialogue was horrendous. I mean who doesn’t want to indulge in raunchy sexual talk with your 26 year old brother-in-law. I did not feel any deep emotional connection between the two main characters who were divorced and going to be reconciling. The story idea had potential, but was sadly left as just potential and nothing more.

This book is hysterical 🤣!

This book is amazing.
I love the characters and the secondary characters.
Claire Kingsley, knows how to make you fall in love with her creation.

Roland Miles and Zoey Sutton, feel in love in high school and married at twenty.
As their life changed, so did their ambitions, and soon their marriage fell apart, ending in divorce.
For years later, Roland, is called back to the family vineyard to figure out why it is close to foreclosure.
Zoe, has worked for the family since the divorce and now they find themselves falling for each other.
Zoe, knows she should protect her heart but Roland, will stop at nothing to get a second chance.
I also, believe everyone should have a break up box.
I loved both Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden's interpretation of this story. They are both amazing in how they captured the characters feelings and personalities.
This is going to be a great series. I look forward to reading all of the Mile's happy ever after.

Oh my goodness. This book is truly AMAZING!🙌🏻 Joe and Maxine were the perfect Roland and Zoe. Their voices and expressions fit these characters spot on! 👏🏻 I was seriously sucked in from start to finish. You could feel chemistry these two shared throughout the story. Even after 4 years it was like these two didn’t skip a beat. I’m so excited for Brynn’s story🤗🤗

Perfection!

Broken Miles is the first book in Kingsley’s Miles Family Series. I loved it first in print, and I've fallen in love all over again with it on audio! It is such a fantastic introduction to the series. I fell in love with the entire family...well, almost the entire family. There is so much included in this story. The love of a family that sticks together and supports one another through the good and the bad, friends who are fierce and loyal, humor, romance, and plot twists that make you gasp all make this a story you won’t want to put down.

This book focuses on Roland and Zoe. They are divorced, but when Roland returns home to help save his family’s winery, they are forced back together. We get brief glimpses of their former relationship through brief text messages from the past and conversations that take place, but this story focuses on the present. I love Roland and Zoe. I think second chance romances are tough to pull off, because for me, I need to see real character development over the course of the story. I need to see the characters work for it, and know they won’t make the same mistakes again. Kingsley accomplished this beautifully. I absolutely loved the push and pull in this story as well as the simmer that built to a raging fire. Their chemistry was off the charts, and the build was amazing!

Not only did I love Roland and Zoe as a couple, I loved them as individual characters. Zoe is independent, loyal, and loving. She is as much (if not more) a part of the Miles family as Roland, and I love the way she cares so deeply for them. Her relationship with Cooper (Roland’s brother) and Chase (Cooper’s best friend) is fantastic. Seeing her cut loose with these goofy boys will make you ready to move right on to their books! And while Roland has made his fair share of mistakes, his love and emotions run deep. I love that he is loyal and loving to both Zoe and his family. He is strong, learns from his mistakes, and supports those he loves. He had me swooning over and over.

Did I mention this is the perfect series opener? Not only do we get to know Roland and Zoe in this book, we also get to know the whole Miles family. I fell head over heels in love with the Miles family. Each and every one of them has a unique story, and you will want to listen straight through all of them!

The narration for this was excellent. Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell did such an amazing job bringing these characters to life. I loved listening from beginning to end and wouldn't hesitate to listen to this combo again!

Second Chances

I loved Roland and Zoe's story. Married young, divorced when there seemed to be no other choice, moving on with their separate lives. Or so they thought.

I was immediately drawn into the story. The description of the Miles' family dynamic made me want to be either a part of the family or someone who works closely with them at their family winery. The deceit by the head of the family left behind a wake of troubles that rippled out ever wider as more and more was revealed. Roland's reluctance to begrudgingly leave his successful life behind to return to "fix" the family business was only compounded by the stress of Zoe also working for the winery. I truly enjoyed the mature and respectful they, as exes, treated each other and how supportive Zoe was of Roland when he most needed it.

The attraction between the two was scorching!

The narration, by Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell, was perfect casting. They both had a wonderful range of emotions that came through in their tone and way of reading the material. They brought the characters to life and, at times, I almost felt as though I was actually a part of their conversations. I also enjoyed the nuances they gave the inner dialogue of the characters - they spoke them in the same way I had "heard" them in my head while reading the book.

I would highly recommend this audio book!

So much feeling!

A fabulous second chance romance featuring Zoe and Roland. Roland comes back to his families winery when they are having financial trouble and connects with his ex-wife and old feelings return. This book was performed by Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell who did a fantastic job bringing out the characters feelings in this book.

Love a second-chance romance!

What happens when you find yourself falling for someone?
What happens when that someone is the man you left four years ago?
What happens when that man is your ex-husband?

All of these questions are answered in Broken Miles. And trust me when I say it's a journey you want to take.

Roland is back in his home town trying to fix his family's business. His brother, Leo, called out of the blue and demanded he come back home, so he did.

Zoe works as the events coordinator at Salishan Cellars. After leaving her husband, she returned to her small hometown and found herself working for her ex-husband's family.

It's worked out perfectly because Roland never comes home. Never. Not in well over a year. So, why is he here now?

Well, rest assured, Roland has his reasons. He also knows he has some unresolved feelings toward his ex-wife. Everyone can see how he feels, but can he ever admit his love for her? Will she be able to find her way back to him or is the damage from the past too much to handle?

The Miles family is amazing. They are strong, they are centered, they are loving. They will do anything to protect and help those they love.

So, settle in with a nice glass of wine (or the cheap stuff, I don't care), grab a blanket and pillow, get comfy, and get acquainted with the Miles family. You're going to love them. Just freaking love them.

Joe Arden and Maxine MItchell bring Roland and Zoe to life and you will love falling into their voices.

AMAZING audiobook!

Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell brought the story of Roland and Zoe to LIFE! Their narration of this book was full of emotion. This was one of the best second chance romances I’ve ever read and listening to it made me love it even more. A young married couple who divorced that can still come together a few years later to help save his family business regardless of the issues they may have had in the past. This story hit me HARD. It was full of the love of family, some hilarious moments, heartbreak, misunderstanding and a love that never died. I am excited for the rest of the audiobooks!

wow great start to the series

5*
Roland gets an urgent call from Leo, to return to the winery they need his help.
Zoe his ex wife works at the winery as a wedding planner.
The two had been together since school but things didn't work out neither got closure but could this be their chance.
I'm loving the characters and can't wait to find out more from them.
I've read the book and now listened to the audio and definitely recommend both.
