Story
Do you believe your struggle with anger stems from the wrong behavior you see displayed in your children? The knee-jerk reactions and blowups you're facing are often a result of a bigger set of "triggers". Some of these are external, like a child's disobedience, back talk, or selective hearing, while others are internal, like an overflowing schedule, sleep deprivation, or perhaps your own painful experiences from childhood.

Great book
Having an energetic young boy, this books helped me see how wonderfully normal he is despite what others say! We have held our ground to not squash our son's beautiful spirit that will make him a successful and healthy man someday! Definitely read this book if you have a boy who began climbing the furniture as soon as he could walk!!

Thank God it’s not too late
I ordered the hard copy of this book several years ago. But never read it due to the business of life until, in a desperate moment of panic I realized as a single parent with 4 boys I was unprepared to handle this stage of their lives. Not knowing where to turn, I cried out to God. I remembered that I had Bringing Up Boys by Dr. Dobson and quickly pulled it off the shelf. But where would I find the time. I work full time to include one weekend a month, the kids and the house keep me running. But just a week ago, a dear friend of mine suggested audiobooks. What a Godsend!!! I was able to get thru this book in 4 days and I even listened to some chapters more than once. Although some of what Dr. Dobson said was painful and often frightening it was right on point and I realized that if I don’t stand up and fight for my children the results will be devastating. I believe this book is not only for parents of boys but everyone should read it. What our society has intended for our youth is heartbreaking and the enemy is coming for them full force. Parents need this information and the rest of the population can benefit greatly from what Dr. Dobson has to say about our children’s growth, how to understand, and support healthy upbringing in our youth after all, parents are not the only ones who interact with children. I’m just saying this amazing and timeless book is for everyone. Thank you Dr. Dobson and focus on the family. AprilB

Disappointing
I had high hopes for this book, as I have heard so much about it and respect Dr. Dobson. Honestly I found it extremely judgemental with no room for women who are called to a career to work. His statement that women who work are ruining their boys is frankly wrong and offensive. Women can work and be present and raise children.

Good advice
This book is full of great and practical advice. So often we think we are doing our kids a favour by giving in to certain things, when in reality we are making the wrong decision. I wish I had read this book ten years ago; however, I can still use many of these principles now in my pre-teen.
Great book that opened my eyes to so many things! Thank-you Dr. Dobson!

Less helpful than I was hoping
He spent an inordinate amount of time on what is wrong with the world and culture. How it is leading our kids, specifically boys, astray. He isn't wrong but I didn't buy this book to learn about the negative and sinful forces out there, I bought it to learn how to better invest in my son. To help him become the man that God wants him to be. For that this book was about as helpful as a short Focus on the Family article. You will be time, and money, ahead to go read a few articles on this subject than to listen to this book. Not very practical.

pretty good
I have "read" a lot of parenting books; as well as books specific to boys. If this is one of your first you will likely get a lot out of it. However, if you have already listened to several you may find this one unremarkable. However, I will say if you are a grandparent to grandsons you may enjoy it more.

More relevant in 2020 than you realize!
Common sense tells me how to bring up my son. But I have been validated by this book. I also learned new things too. An amazing book and if you have a son, you must get this! The "Bigotry" mentioned by others, is from closed minded leftist brainwashed individuals who would book burn and wear black and not see that they've become what they claim to hate. They will not have safe children.

Interesting but bigoted
Although the author mentions some good points. Most of the book is from a religious Christian perspective. Which clearly is fundamentalist and discriminatory. Yes there are bad homosexuals, but then there are also bad christians too. The perspective seems narrow and really only applicable to a Christian perspective. If you want a deeper more heart cantered perspective look elsewhere.
