Publisher's Summary

A wise and inspiring guide to creating a happy and healthy blended family by Mashonda Tifrere with contributions from her co-parents - Swizz Beatz and his wife, Grammy-Award winning singer and songwriter Alicia Keys.

In January 2010, founder of ArtLeadHer Mashonda Tifrere and music producer Swizz Beatz finalized their divorce. When Swizz married award-winning singer/songwriter Alicia Keys, a new dynamic was born - three adults who loved and were deeply committed to raising Mashonda and Swizz's four-year old son Kasseem. In Blend, Tifrere draws on the insights they gained from their journey as well as advice from family therapists, parenting experts, and other blending families, to provide an invaluable resource for blended families.

Statistics show that one in three Americans is now a step-parent, stepchild, step-sibling or other member of a blended family. The number of first time marriages or romantic relationships that end in divorce or breakups and the high percentage of remarriages and new relationships that involve children demand a unique, life-affirming approach to processing the end of one relationship and the rebirth of a new familial dynamic with the well-being of children at its center. In this book, Tifrere shares intimate details on how she and her co-parents used communication, patience and love to create an environment where they were able to work as a team and all the children involved could thrive.

Blend will inspire a generation of families.

This book is a truly a Gift.

I just finished listening to the Blend audio book (completed it in two days), and felt deeply compelled to immediately write a review. I am 7 months pregnant with my first child, confronted with the pending reality of coparenting with my ex. While I wasn't married to my partner, the circumstances of our relationship's end were quite painful, and have felt endlessly triggering. Everyday I find myself working through wounds surrounding abandonment, unworthiness, and not-enoughness. Learning from Mashonda's experience how these truamas could adversely affect my daughter, made it clear that I must tend to them with delicate patience + persistence. Though challenging work, the peace, love, and authenticity Mashonda exudes let's me know it is well worth it. After one listen, I know Blend will be my blueprint for cultivating a harmonious family dynamic, predicated on a commitment to self-work + self-care. I'll be investing in a hardcopy so I can highlight, underline, and annotate its many gems. If you're reading, Mashonda: Thank you for your bravery, candor, and for answering the call to write this book. Blend is truly a gift to the world, and it will heal fractured families today, for the continued benefit of generations to come.

I read this book because I was interested in co parenting relationship and thinking about going back to school for family sociology. Also, I continued seeing clip of Mashonda, Swizz and Alicia interviewing and promoting the book . I said to myself, what a dope Dynamics. I was happy to see them together and your felt that they were genuine. I love seeing family making it work. I love the book. I finished it in 2 days. Im not in a situation like this. But I was able to take some tips away from it to better me as a women. I wanted to thank Mashonda for this amazing testimony.

Thank you!

I have been separated for two years and officially divorced for a year. While divorce has been anything but easy, my ex and I have maintained that we LOVE the kids and will stand together as a family to raise them. Both, dad and I are in new relationships and introducing two other adults into our family tribe has had its ups and downs. This book gave me concrete tools to introduce into our blended family dynamic. More so, it helped me ground myself in the love I feel for the father of my children - not because I want to be married to him. We know marriage doesn't work for us or the kids but finding appreciation for who he is as a co-parent. I appreciated Mashonda's candidness and sincerity. Also, I loved listening to her voice as a narrator. Great listen!

Inspiration with love and light

Opened my eyes to a new way of being; parking egos and concentrating on what really matters: how we treat people. Having been raised with "step siblings" and now being a bonus mum to a teenager myself, I found these chapters so relatable. Finishing this book made me take a reality check to my own created environment. Am I doing all I can? What would it be like to allow myself to relax and socialise with someone I'd never thought to before - I didn't realise that was allowed outside of weddings, christenings and funerals! Now we have a social event in the calendar, our first and no doubt the start of a stronger blended family relationship. Thank you for sharing your love and light.
