brilliant...

Another brilliant installment. John Milton is a wonderful and engaging character. This story is up there with the rest. You can't help but live it.

They can't all be good

Disappointed . Very slow to get the story moving. If the next one is of the same I'll go to another author

It seems the best is in the past

The books in the John Milton series I have found the most enjoyable are the stories where John is up against a 'new' threat. Where he is helping someone new (Sward of God & Salvation Row) get their life together. I had hoped that having old enemies after him had been left in the past after he settled things with his old employer. I had been a fan of this series but I am losing interest. While this book isn't bad, it isn't the best int he series.

Another captivating story

The story line is unique. John Milton and Hicks' characters are further developed in a deep and unhurried way. The narrator captures your attention and plays each part without being too theatrical. Such a well-written and well-told story.

If he wrote one a day, I would read one a day.

Never a disappointment. John Milton has faults, quirks, moods, even a weakness... he is still the best good/bad hero on offer. Just great!

Intriguing. Edge of your seat!

Blackout starts from the perspective of the main character waking up from a blackout to find booze bottles and a dead body in his hotel room. The thing is that he is a card carrying member of AA. The other thing is that he used to be part of a specialized team that killed people or went in to get information. Did he do it? The characters are so consistent in this book that at one point I think this women is going to wreck everything. All of the actions and complications make sense. Really enjoyed this book. David Thorpe did an excellent job of differentiating all of the different characters to the point that I wouldn't have needed a name to know whom was speaking.

One of the best in the series.

Solid story and audio. Author stayed away from overusing “eloquent” but voice talent still can’t pronounce “ate.”

Milton is Tougher than ever

Mark Dawson spins another riveting story of John Milton. Plot is good, with some good twists and a couple of characters from his past. David Thorpe is one of my favorite narrators. Looking forward to the next installment.

Another great John Milton adventure

By now you have probably read one or more John Milton books by Mark Dawson. This one is as good as the rest. Ziggy is back along with Hicks. This one takes place in the Philippines and Milton gets thrown in jail with no hope of escape. You'll have to read it for the rest of the story.

What an adventure!

Great story! Quite different from the others but fun fun fun still the same. Milton has a knack for getting into crazy situations. They seem to somehow find him. I recommend this book to fans of thrillers and spy-type novels. The accents, as usual with David Thorpe, were spot on!

ALWAYS ENJOYABLE

The latest episode of the John Milton series is a well written, enjoyable tale with some old characters, a few new ones, a prior protagonist and a twisted tale. A lot of local color, in true Mark Dawson style! I loved it, Mark! May John's adventures continue for many more years! Thank you!!

Epic....!

Frankly, this was superb! I've listened to a few in the Milton series, and they just keep getting better. Milton, unusually lackadaisical at the outset of this story, finds himself in a Filipino jail - having been accused of the murder of a past acquaintance. This time he needs help to put the record straight.
Great storyline and keeps the reader/listener engaged. I wanted to listen to this in one go, and would have if time had allowed.
Once again, great narration from David Thorpe.

Another great listen...

You know what it's like; it can be a great story, written by a favourite author, but the narrator ruins the book. Not the case with David Thorpe. He's a great performer and - I think - adds to the enjoyment of the story. Great stuff. Only problem is, I've now listened to them all...

I was very uncomfortable with the narration.

Would you try another book written by Mark Dawson or narrated by David Thorpe?

I like Mark Dawson's John Milton books. I have all of them on Kindle. However, I did not enjoy the narration, particularly the voice given to John Milton. I gave up very quickly.

Would you be willing to try another one of David Thorpe’s performances?

Probably not, but it could be bad jusdgement on the Milton voice.

Was Blackout worth the listening time?

Not for me.
