Publisher's Summary
Is John Milton on the path to redemption or the road to revenge?
John Milton has done some bad things in his life. Very bad things. Now he’s looking for ways to make amends. But trouble always seems to be looking for him.
Heading from San Francisco to Las Vegas, Milton’s solo road trip takes an unexpected turn when he picks up Jessica Russo, a young woman in distress at the side of the road. She urgently needs a ride, and he’s happy to help her out.
But what starts out as a simple favour quickly becomes something more sinister. Once they get to their destination, it’s clear something isn’t right. Working for the Vegas casinos has got Jessica’s father wrapped up with the wrong people. A mistake that could prove fatal for him and his family.
This is just the beginning of a dangerous journey that will take Milton from Sin City to Siena and beyond. As Milton goes deeper into a world of violence, ruthlessness and revenge, will he finally put his demons to rest? Or is he about to awaken the devil he’s been trying to smother for so long?

What happened?
This is an addictive series for sure, made better by David Thorpe skilful narration, but a novel without an end is very dissatisfying. Apart from that and a gaping hole in the plot (the thumb drive was their insurance for the meeting in the desert) it was a great read as always.

One of the best of the series!
The quality of the novels in Mark Dawson's John Milton series has been somewhat variable recently, but BRIGHT LIGHTS is a solid 5 star suspense thriller. The ending of this novel sets up the next book in the series. Author Dawson releases novels in this series every 6 or 7 months so the wait will not be long.

One of the best..
Jeez, John Milton is not afraid of anyone and is constantly tell bad guys that they should be afraid of him, but they never listen. This story was about the cartel screwing Las Vegas out of millions, of John having to deal with a traitor, of a friend being murdered, and ending with John, Hicks, Ziggy and Mason Baxter going after the people who ordered the death of his friend.
No romance and the F-bomb was used 15 times.
As for the narration: It's such a joy listening to David Thorpe; the accents, the different voices and the emotions when he reads. Wonderful.

Thanks to David Thorpe
Sometimes a reader is so good that I get hooked. David Thorpe is a good example. I get a shot of joy just hearing him say "chapter four" (or whatever the number — and Mark Dawson's novels with their short chapters give him ample occasion to display this unique effect.) He says the chapter number in an energetic, invigorating way that immediately takes you out of the drama of the story (as well as your own drama whatever that may be!) and resets your good humour. It is also the perfect transition from one scene to another that is different.
Dawson's novels are entertaining enough, but I might not be quite so impatient for them were I not so hooked on David Thorpe's delightful narration.
Every now and then a reader is so perfectly suited for a particular series that I can hardly imagine another. One such is Dick Hill in Lee Child's Reacher novels: I was greatly dismayed when the last one featured Scott Brick rather than Dick Hill. I just hope no Milton novel will ever appear with another reader than David Thorpe!

Finally, John Milton is back in full force!
This is an exciting gateway to the next storyline in the John Millton series...also, Ziggy Penn, Alex Hicks and Beau Baxter all in one place together??? Awesome! Note: Has anyone else noticed that all the important women in these books are all named Jessica? Also, Dawson always describes them as smelling like citrus...weird, right? (I'm a woman, so maybe you guys didn't pick up on it, but it's weird). Anyway, narration is great, as always.

Not his best
I ha listened to everyone of John Milton adventures. This one just seemed forced. Characters were not developed. The “girl” that needed his help turned out not to need his help. In the end he is set for retribution and the book ends. All John Milton books are good, this one was just not as good as the others.

Brilliant...
Bright Lights is the latest installment in the fantastic John Milton series.
On this occasion, Milton has a road trip in the US planned, along with the desire to see Elijah fight in Las Vegas. On the way, he bumps into an old friend. When offering help to someone in clear distress, Milton soon becomes embroiled in a much larger plot. The usual action and edge of your seat intrigue ensue. The book itself is left on a real cliffhanger, with some series favourites turning up to lend Milton a hand. Really can't wait for the next chapter in this series.
Can't recommend Bright Lights enough. Can't recommend the John Milton series enough either. Newcomers would definitely enjoy the series more if completed in order.
Fantastic narration from David Thorpe. Throughout the series he's been flawless.

Spoiled by the lack of ending
99% of this book is the usual brilliant Milton. Then it finishes. No wind down, no cliffhanger, not even a final epic battle - just a chapter break that turns out to be the end just as things seem about to get good. Very disappointing non-ending which is not what I've come to expect from Dawson.
