Beyond Strange Lands is an action-packed and fantastical multi-cast audio drama that journeys across the Australian outback.
In 1982, the famous paranormal expert Grant Peters went missing while filming his TV show Legendary Australia. His wife Melissa was never able to find him. When Melissa herself disappears nearly forty years later, her daughter Fiona and grandson Ethan trace her to the small outback town of Boulia. There they discover a collection of old audio tapes that Melissa left behind: a set of clues they must follow if they’re to solve this mystery in time. Insidious forces will stop at nothing to destroy them, and an impossibly ancient menace lurks deep beneath the ground, waiting for the chance to strike....

Great vintage fun
Beyond strange lands reminds me of sci fi from the 70s. It’s hammy, but in a delightfully old school guilty pleasure kind of way.
If you’re skeptical about this sort of story (sci fi) being effectively communicated in an engaging way without anything visual, you don’t need to worry - it’s really immersive. Things are happening around you as you listen. The characters (and the actors performances) are distinct enough for you to be able to follow what’s going on straight away, and the world-building is just fleshed out enough to keep things interesting, without weighing things down with hours of exposition.
All in all very bingeable, highly recommend!

Great Australian mystery
This was a really fun series - taking on elements of a Australian culture and history and turning them into a paranormal mystery. The binaural recording technique really elevated the storytelling - and some great performances as well!

Good
Did find the story interesting and the actors great. The boy annoyed me however. He was written in the typical whiny teenager format,

Home grown Aussie speculative fiction
I enjoy speculative fiction anyway but I particularly enjoyed how the whole story was framed as an Aussie road trip complete with references to Aussie legends such as Ned Kelly and mysteries such as what happened to Leichhardt.

Awful at every level!
Not sure if this drivel is intended to be a comedy or a serious drama. Too silly to be taken seriously and too pathetic to be amusing. No stereotype or cliche is too bad for this production. This is one of the worst listens I have come across yet. Even provided freely this seemed like a rip off. Real struggle to finish - 5 & 1/2 hours of my life I will never get back.

okay for under 12's
It was like listening to a bad series of Docto Who with the odd awkward injection of a sware word. I tried my hardest to give it a fair hearing but had to stop halfway through.

Awful sound quality!
I just couldn't listen to this. I have no idea what it was about as the sound quality was reminiscent of going through short wave transmissions when I was a kid. At least I didn't pay for it!

Great
Really enjoyed this. Only problem is it doesn’t play the next episode in the app so it was a bit annoying. Excellent story and performance from the cast. A good break from the weird world we are currently living in !

Atmospheric and Entertaining
Atmospheric and entertaining. I found this to be a well performed story which kept me guessing. Sci-fi is by its very nature extreme but I enjoyed the escapism of the plot.

Acoustics .. need good sound..
Story is not bad... delivery is not bad... but they have really gone for the Acoustic experience so for full effect use a good headset or surround speaker set... 4* is about right!
