Publisher's Summary

Stylish, smart, and scary as hell.” (Chris Bohjalian, number one New York Times best-selling author)

"A nightmarish white-knuckler." (O, The Oprah Magazine)

Oliver Park, a recovering addict from Indiana, finally has everything he ever wanted: sobriety and a loving, wealthy partner in Nathan, a prominent DC trauma surgeon. Despite their difference in age and disparate backgrounds, they've made a perfect life together. With everything to lose, Oliver shouldn't be visiting Haus, a gay bathhouse. But through the entrance he goes, and it's a line crossed. Inside, he follows a man into a private room, and it's the final line. Whatever happens next, Nathan can never know. But then, everything goes wrong, terribly wrong, and Oliver barely escapes with his life.

He races home in full-blown terror as the hand-shaped bruise grows dark on his neck. The truth will destroy Nathan and everything they have together, so Oliver does the thing he used to do so well: he lies.

What follows is a classic runaway-train narrative, full of the exquisite escalations, edge-of-your-seat thrills, and oh-my-god twists. P. J. Vernon's Bath Haus is a scintillating thriller with an emotional punch, perfect for readers curious for their next must-listen novel.

Nothing strong about this book

I listened until the end and it wasn't the worst book I have ever read.
The hardest thing about it was the narrator for Oliver...a shaking, quivering, nervous voice throughout the entire novel. His extreme co-dependence and the lengths he went to also really stretched the imagination.

Love, love, love this

Finished in one day. Super dark domestic noir. I felt so tense while reading this perfectly paced and plotted novel. I wouldn’t call it a mystery as you can sort of feel what’s coming and that makes it all the more heart racing. Can’t say much more without giving things away. Narration was very good too!

Purple prose for the Lavender Set

--The first person description of the main character was too extreme (not too vivid, which I would have welcomed) Lots of sentences like: "I was surrounded by a room full of spiders, but I was the only one without 8 legs and venom sacs."
--The emotional reality of this relationship wasn't established so it was always hard to justify why the main character was so torn up by any of his decisions.
--The flashbacks deadened any forward momentum.
--The book is told from 2 characters' perspectives, which reveals too much information to sustain the suspense.
--The narrators were most likely doing the best with what was given, but their best was a tremulous monotone.

Charged and Intoxicating

A journey through the lives of partners - Oliver, a recovering drug addict, and Nathan, the man who helped turn Oliver's life around and maintains a life of stability and structure to prevent his relapse - Bath Haus is a chilling account of love and deception, and one couple's attempts to maintain a life together despite the obstacles.

Dramatic narration by Michael Crouch and Daniel Henning bring Oliver and Nathan to life in an adventure from heart racing start to climactic ending.

This thriller by P.J. Vernon went on my wish list as soon as I finished his novel When You Find Me. Exhilarating suspense from start to finish kept me on the edge, making it difficult to put this down, and making it well worth the wait for this title's release.

I'm adding this to my review as I looked for it specifically before purchase and didn't see it mentioned - There are some mildly violent references to sexual acts and descriptive sexual related scenes in this book. However neither were enough to cause me to stop listening, even as a *slightly* modest cishet female. So, if you're concerned about that- worry not!

Do it

Fascinating book. Absolutely excellent. Kept me listening straight through. The narrator for Oliver did a fantastic job. The narrator of Nathan did a good job with Nathan but all the other characters struggled.

If you can stand the drama...

The story is pretty good, a bit predictable and drawn out with excessive over dramatic writing, which is exasperated by o we dramatic narration. While the genera lends itself to drama, this was a bit thick. I’ve read/listed to better, and worse.

I just couldn’t finish it

I really tried to get through this book. 2 hours left, and had to just stop. There is not one redeeming character in this entire novel. Maybe the detective, but she’s barely around to buffer the string of unlikable people making terrible decisions.

Terrifying!

I absolutely loved this epic thriller from P. J. Vernon. Cuts razor deep and has had such a lasting impression. Narration is of particular excellence.
