This book took me on a bit of an emotional rollercoaster.
I’ll admit, the beginning had me worried. After everything Warwick and Brexley had been through, I really didn’t want a whole book filled with relationship drama and miscommunication. Thankfully, that wasn’t where the story went.
Instead, this became Brexley’s story.
For the first time, she has to figure out who she is without the magic she’s unknowingly relied on her entire life. She goes from being almost invincible to rolling her ankle on a mission and feeling vulnerable in a way she never has before. Even harder than losing her magic was realising that some of the people she thought cared about her had actually been drawn to her because of it.
That was probably my favourite part of the book.
Watching Brexley discover which relationships survived without the magical pull made those friendships feel so much more meaningful. It wasn’t all bad news either. The people who truly cared about her stayed, and I loved seeing that. I also really enjoyed the moments with Opie and Bitzy, who added a bit of lightness and charm to the story and made the found family aspect feel even stronger.
Warwick and Brexley actually spend a lot of this book apart, which I think worked in its favour. Their relationship continued to develop naturally without constant arguments or forced romantic tension. When they were together, it felt like the right time for those moments rather than interrupting everything else that was happening.
Ash continues to be one of my favourite characters, and Scorpion has become another. I honestly found myself just as invested in the friendships and found family as I was in the romance.
The mystery surrounding Brexley’s identity, her family, the Grey, and the Nectar continues to be what keeps me turning the pages. Every answer leads to another question, and I still have no idea where this series is ultimately heading.

* Learning more about the Nectar and watching it slowly change.
* The reunion after Brexley and Warwick spent time apart.
Thoughts & Twists
* Losing the bond turned out to be far more about Brexley discovering who genuinely loved and cared for her than creating relationship drama, and I ended up appreciating that much more than I expected.
* I loved seeing Brexley forced to rely on herself rather than her magic. It made her feel more vulnerable and more human.
* Killian continues to be one of the most interesting morally grey characters in the series.
* Ash somehow keeps becoming more and more likeable.
* I’m convinced Scorpion deserves happiness, and i love him so the ending was not okay. my fingers are crossed that something epic stops Hannah or scorpion from having to die.
* Istvan continues to prove that there is no line he won’t cross.
Final Thoughts
This series just keeps getting bigger.
The politics, the mysteries, the worldbuilding, and the relationships all continue to evolve, and I never feel like I’m reading the same book twice (even if some tooics are repeated a lot for context purposes).
That ending was brutal, and there is absolutely no way I could leave the series there. I need to know what happens next.
