Story
An orchestral conductor has been found dead and Detective Inspector Jack Robinson needs the delightfully incisive and sophisticated Miss Fisher's assistance. Hugh Tregennis has been murdered in a most flamboyant mode by a killer with a point to prove. But how many killers is Phryne really stalking? At the same time, the dark curls and disdainful air of mathematician and code-breaker Rupert Sheffield are taking Melbourne by storm. They've certainly taken the heart of Phryne's old friend from the trenches of WWI, John Wilson. Phryne recognises Sheffield as a man who attracts danger and is determined to protect John from harm.

In Phryne's third adventure, Phryne is off to Ballarat for a week of fabulousness, but the sedate journey by train turns out to be far from the restful trip she was planning. What was planned as a restful country sojourn turns into the stuff of nightmares: a young girl who can't remember anything, rumours of vile white slavery and the body of an old woman missing her emerald rings.

Danger, excitement and love - this is how the glamorous Phryne Fisher is determined to live her life in her second enticing adventure. Walking the wings of a Tiger Moth plane in full flight ought to be enough excitement for most people, but not Phryne Fisher, amateur detective, woman of mystery, as delectable as the finest chocolate and as sharp as razor blades.

Away with the Fairies is Magical!
Where does Away with the Fairies rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It's right up there with all of the other wonderful Phryne Fisher books I've listened to as audio books.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Oh, my yes! The suspense was in every scene and the characters are so likable (the good ones) that you very much care what becomes of them.
What about Stephanie Daniel’s performance did you like?
She's a terrific actress and when she's reading a man's part, I forget she's a woman, and she does all of the accents to a T.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Oh, gosh, too many parts! I'd have to give the plot away if I named them all!
Any additional comments?
I'd recommend this series to any fan of cross-cultural historical mysteries, Agatha Christie, Tommy and Tuppence and you also learn a lot about Australia and its history in the course of the story.

Phryne has a job??
Phryne joins the ranks of the employed to solve a case. Well, for Phryne anyway. I love the 20's era the stories are set in. The depression hasn't hit yet, things are tough but not so tough. The plot is very good. Phryne seems to have more interactions with the suspects in this book, at least to me. I enjoyed it thoroughly!

Phryne Rules!
Jack asks Pryne to look into a suspicious death. A writer obsessed with fairies who also writes an advice column for a women's magazine is found dead. She had previously consulted Jack because of some threats she received that he didn't take seriously. Phryne determines the woman's cause of death and is on the case. She even becomes a staff member of the women's magazine as part of her investigation. It also appears someone is trying to kill Phryne. Moreover, Lin is missing after a trip to China to buy silk, and Phryne receives a grotesque object in the post. She has an audience with Lin's grandmother and Li Pen, his bodyguard -- who was released after a message was carved on his chest. It appears that Lin has been captured by pirates. Although their business depends on integrity in releasing captives after ransom is paid, the Lin family paid but Lin has not been released. Phryne enlists Bert and Cec to find a wharf rat who can educate her about pirates. He previously sailed on the missing ship, and when she learns pirates sometimes disguise ships and boldly sail into port to sell the cargo they stole, she assigns them to watch for the ship. Ultimately, Phryne personally leads a daring rescue mission.

As always Phryne was outstanding! Kerry is good!
I love all Kerry's books and I just love the TV shows that are based on her books. I can not get enough of them. I was so disappointed when they stopped the show. That is when I started reading her books and they are just as good as the TV shows. There just are not enough of them to keep me going. She needs to write more.

Jolly good fun
I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and while I do my tasks I like to listen to audio books. My current favourite is the Phryne Fisher series! The books are well read and the mysteries and characters are entertaining without being too grim! Some of the more sensual scenes mean that I have to make sure I am not listening with my 6 year old in the room.

Brilliant!
So far this is my favourite book in this series. Phryne Fisher as always leaves me feeling that I wish I have lived in her time and place and that I could have been that brave.
Kerry Greenwood explains this book at the start, and it is good to hear the author reading this part.
This book has two stories within the one you have the death of a writer and the more about Lin Chung.
I became engrossed and very attached to all in this book and wanted to Phryne ?to get her man?
While worth a listen whether you are a first timer, or are just not taken with this book, its a lot better than in may first sound, and I am left with the wish that I could write just to be able to kill people off!
