Refreshing tale with a Strong Heroine
I love to read about strong women who look adversity in the eye and stand up for themselves. When she was backed in a corner by her sister instead of backing down and letting the villan go ahead with there plans she threw a punch... Perfect!

Insta-love with an idiot
I read the reviews and thought this must be a great book, but it's not. It's another one of those "their eyes met in the first chapter and 7 days later they are in love and having sex. One of the reviewers indicated that the characters were well developed. I don't know what you can know about any character in so little time and when there is very little variety in their activities. The heroine is a saint. She helps everyone, uses her money to support people, she's very smart, She is the "most beautiful woman ever" and remains unmarried...I guess a saint can't find anyone good enough . She's feisty ( how this happens , as there is no back story to indicate how this developed). There is no back story for anyone. The hero has made a fortunate ( not sure how or why), heroine's brother is married and his wife is a shrew ( and having an affair) and there is already a suitor for the heroine that is trying to compromise her and gain her inheritance. The reader gets plunked down in the middle of all of this. And of course we get a foreign servant that spouts platitudes at every turn. I enjoyed Ms Clee's books when they involved a mystery, but I don't think she has the ability to really write a developed relationship. Insta-love/lust is just not enough to build the foundation of a book. The over-the-top narration hurts a book that is not good to begin with. I just can't believe other people read this and thought this was a good book. If that is the case, I am really missing something, but I don't think so! Not worth a credit.....even if it were free I don't think it is worth the time.

a very enjoyable story
Miss Lydia Lovell has done her best to help the neglected and impoverished tenants of Greystone Manor for the last several years, even if it’s not her place. When the lord himself returns home, Lydia is determined to have justice for these dependents who suffered in his absence. Miles Oakley, Viscount Greystone, has spent the past five years in India making his fortune, all with the goal of seeing to the ruination of those who facilitated his mother’s humiliation. Now a wealthy man, things are falling into place until an irate woman meets him with outrageous accusations before he’s even set foot in his house and he discovers a betrayal that leaves him reeling and livid. Beyond the drama with Greystone’s tenants, Lydia has other problems. She’s just weeks away from getting her inheritance and her weak brother and his shrewish wife are constantly scheming ways to wrest control of her fortune. She also has an inconvenient attraction to Greystone, despite the years she spent misguidedly loathing him. When it becomes clear that someone is trying to ruin them both, Miles and Lydia find their relationship deepening and become determined to foil their enemies’ plots and find a way to be together. Overall, this was a nice, fast-paced, entertaining story. I really enjoyed Miles as a hero. I only wish we’d seen a bit more comeuppance for the villains and that Lydia had referred to Miles by his given name more, but this is just an odd pet peeve of mine. Lydia did at times make ridiculously stupid decisions, but at least she did acknowledge her naivete and learn from it. I enjoyed that Miles came to her rescue and that they both openly admitted their true feelings for each other with no game-playing. This was an enjoyable story with a lively narration and I look forward to the next book in the series.

An excellent start to a new series
What an excellent start to a new series! I just couldn’t wait to listen to the next instalment. The characters were both interesting and intriguing and all set, mainly in the countryside. Lydia was such a lovely character, she had such thoughtful ways, particularly for the poorer members of their community. Miles, too, was all you could ask for in a hero, strong, handsome, caring for those he loved. There are a number of secrets to be revealed and a few villains to add interest to the story. The narrator really brought the scenes to life by using different voices and adding appropriate emphasis to the action to build tension and excitement. I’m eagerly looking forward to the next in the series. Highly recommend.

Great start of a new series
This is a great first book in a new series by Adele Clee. I have read every one of her books and listened to quite a few and have never been disappointed. And this new book is no exception. The characters are well developed. The story is fast-paced. There are a lot of funny remarks that made me laugh out loud and I absolutely loved the banter between hero and heroine. And though she was annoying at times, I even liked the maid. I am very much looking forward to the next book in this new series. And, as with all the other books she narrated, Ms. Ivary did a great job.

The Narrator is dramatic.
I am in two minds whether the narrator improves or detracts. It is truly dramatic, breathy and a bit shouty. The hero, heroine and secondary characters get lost in the telling of the tale. Still it might appeal to others. I was disappointed, I liked the book.
