The narrator and the author sound like they are competing with how they think the book should sound. In moments where the characters say something as a joke the narrator reads it in a soft or serious tone making it hard to understand many interactions and scenes throughout the book. The narrator also adds large pauses in sentences making it almost impossible so follow what is going on.
