Der große, zahme Gänserich, der mit in die Luft aufgestiegen war, fühlte sich sehr stolz, so mit den wilden Gänsen über Schonen hin und her zu fliegen und mit den zahmen Vögeln Scherz zu treiben. Aber wie glücklich er auch war, konnte er nicht umhin, am Nachmittag müde zu werden. Er versuchte, tiefer zu atmen und stärker mit den Flügeln zu schlagen, aber trotzdem blieb er mehrere Gänselängen hinter den andern zurück.
