Publisher's Summary

With just one step, 16-year-old Alex Jennings' world changes - literally.

Dreading her first day at a new school, Alex is stunned when she walks through a doorway and finds herself stranded in Medora, a fantasy world full of impossibilities.

Desperate to return home, she learns that only Professor Marselle can help her...but he's missing. While waiting for him to reappear, Alex attends Akarnae Academy, Medora's boarding school for teenagers with extraordinary gifts. She soon starts to enjoy her bizarre new world and the friends who embrace her as one of their own, but strange things are happening at Akarnae, and Alex can't ignore her fear that something unexpected...something sinister...is looming.

An unwilling pawn in a deadly game, Alex's shoulders bear the crushing weight of an entire race's survival. Only she can save the Medorans, but what if doing so prevents her from ever returning home?

Will Alex risk her entire world - and maybe even her life - to save Medora?

Fun!

Narnia meets Harry Potter? That is the feeling I get from this. Well written, exciting YA fiction. Even for older people. I'm 30 and still enjoyed it.

Fun listen, motivated to hear sequel.

Cute high-school fantasy Story, enjoyable protagonist, writing elevated by an engaging narrator easily distinguishing characters.

Enjoyable story - if a little predictable

I came to this book after listening to “ The Wise Man’s Fears”.

It’s probably not a fair transition as it’s was performed by Rupert Degas - who is a simply amazing performer/narrator.

So it meant that this performance felt a little flat and one dimensional to start with & I nearly gave up on it.

However, once I became used to this narrator’s style - I looked forward to listening to it & would definitely continue with the series.

The story can at times be a little predictable, however I enjoyed the world that was presented & the characters within it.

awesome!

this book is completely fantastic, i was hooked from the first moment, i totally recommend it to anyone over 11 years and who likes fantasy, adventure. the narrator was great but took a little getting used to, the way she says jennings like 'jennins' it just sounded weird. apart from that the plot was great and so were the character, i definitely recommend it!

Amazing YA series!!!

12/10
Cannot recommend enough. Such a good YA series that is well written and plot twists don’t feel like last minute writing choices
