1956年 山梨生まれ
デザイナーの個性を主張するのではなく、生活者の視点にたって人の想いを可視化する静かでありながら力強いデザインに定評がある。これまでに世界を代表する70社以上のブランドや、日本国内のリーディングカンパニーのデザインを手がけている。世界で最も影響力のあるデザイナーの一人とされている。
日用品や電子精密機器からモビリティ、家具、インテリア、建築に至るまで、手がけるデザインの領域は幅広く多岐に渡る。自らのアトリエも自らデザインしている。イサム・ノグチ賞、Collab Design Excellence Awardsなど受賞歴多数。ロイヤルデザイナー・フォー・インダストリー（英国王室芸術協会）の称号を持つ。2006年、Jasper Morrisonと共に「Super Normal」設立。2022年、デザインと科学の繋がりの探究に取り組むことを目的に一般財団法人THE DESIGN SCIENCE FOUNDATIONを創設。LOEWEクラフトプライズ審査委員。
