1941年大阪生まれ。独学で建築を学び、69年安藤忠雄建築研究所設立。
代表作に「光の教会」、「六甲の集合住宅」、「フォートワース現代美術館」、「地中美術館」、「こども本の森 中之島」、「ブルス・ドゥ・コメルス」など。
79年「住吉の長屋」で日本建築学会賞、95年プリツカー賞、05年国際建築家連合ゴールドメダル、10年文化勲章、21年フランス レジオン・ドヌール勲章コマンドゥールなど受賞多数。
