About this listen

Blood doesn't recognize magic. Earth magic doesn't recognize rules.

Merritt Vale guards a devastating secret: she's the last of a legendary species, with powers that could get her killed—or enslaved.

When she stumbles into Little Avalon, a hidden sanctuary thrumming with ancient magic, the earth itself responds to her presence. Roses burst through concrete. Trees bend to her whispers.

For the first time, Merritt dares to hope she's found a home among its extraordinary residents.

As vicious gangsters terrorize nearby Brooklyn Bridge Park, Merritt discovers her uncontrollable earth magic might be exactly what the city needs.

She prowls the shadowy paths as something ancient and terrifying—a protector the likes of which neither world has seen. Yet every transformation risks exposing her true nature to her newfound family, and the darker truth of why she's really the last Leshbolg alive.

Can Merritt protect both worlds without losing control of her devastating powers? Or will saving innocent lives mean sacrificing the first place that's ever felt like home—and the chosen family she's always dreamed of?

Though its a different story, it does have a similar feel to the Valerie Stonehold series by the same author, but this is a good thing as they are stories of accepting one's self and seeing the value each of us offers regardless of our differences. All the characters are really likeable, well, except for one particular person but they come round in the end. The main character is quite different from that I've seen before and I've read and listened to 2000+ odd books in this genre. It's an interesting character in more than one way but i don't want to spoil it so i won't say how, you will just have to listen to find out yourself.

Just know that this book focuses on friendship and family, whether that's direct blood connection or a group of like minded close friends.

There is no crude focus on explicit sex or any physical relationship at all beyond hugs. it's refreshing.

I Highly recommend both these authors and btw they always use fantastic narrators to bring the stories to life.

At the time of this review, only book 1 of this series is available, if you find you have bought and listened to this book and are hankering for more, I recommend listening to the Valerie Stonehold series by the same author, its really quite fun.

Really quite enjoyable
