Story
In Happy Derren Brown explores changing concepts of happiness - from the surprisingly modern wisdom of the Stoics and Epicureans in classical times right up until today, when the self-help industry has attempted to claim happiness as its own. He shows how many of self-help’s suggested routes to happiness and success – such as positive thinking, self-belief and setting goals – can be disastrous to follow and, indeed, actually cause anxiety. Happy aims to reclaim happiness and to enable us to appreciate the good things in life, in all their transient glory.

Story
Some people bounce back in response to setbacks; others break. We often think that these responses are hardwired, but fortunately this is not the case. Stoicism offers us an alternative approach. Plumbing the wisdom of one of the most popular and successful schools of thought from ancient Rome, philosopher William B. Irvine teaches us to turn any challenge on its head. The Stoic Challenge, then, is the ultimate guide to improving your quality of life through tactics developed by ancient Stoics, from Marcus Aurelius and Seneca to Epictetus.

Publisher's Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
Happiness is impossible to define and illusory. How then are we to lead happier lives?
In A Little Happier Derren Brown condenses the lessons of his international best seller Happy into 17 beautifully wrought, wise and profoundly reassuring mini-chapters, each one challenging us to think differently so as to overcome anxiety in a difficult world.
None of this is real when each of us tells stories about our lives in too tidy narratives that are seldom true and rarely helpful.
We should be wary of goal setting: long-term goals fixate us on a future that may not happen and we may not wish for when we get there.
Our partner isn't right for us because no-one is. None of us is born for someone else. But perhaps those areas of frequent conflict are useful indicators of where we might ourselves be insufferable.
Life is hard, messy and complex; our friends will probably let us down; most of what has got us here is blind luck and a series of false starts. But if we can learn to separate what we can control - our thoughts and actions - from all else beyond our control, we can find a surer footing with which to greet the world.

A good summary of the longer book
If you have read or listened to Happy, you don’t need to listen to this. Derren is giving the same advice again in a shorter version.
However, just because you don’t need it that doesn’t mean you won’t appreciate it. I’ve listened to this in the end of lockdown and have found it a wonderful reminder of the valuable lessons told by Derren in Happy. I will keep this and listen again, when I need reminding.

Tame your anxiety with Mr. Brown's brilliant book!
This audio book is really great. If you are suffering at all from anxious thoughts or behaviours, then I truly recommend this book to help you free yourself from the stifling grip of anxiety.
The perspective that Derren had kindly shared with us is easily digestible and immediately practical.
Thank you for producing this! <3

A nice little reminder
A nice little reminder. I've read Happy and this is a more convenient way of recapping on the main points raised without rereading the whole book. I would definitely recommend both Happy and A Little Happier 👍

I wish I had told him about his purple trousers
I had read all of the ‘happy’ series although not in the right order and I must admit, enjoyed them all immensely during this crazy covid world. Somehow they take in a new meaning. I digress, ‘a little’ is a comfortable companion; a narrative that offers all the cringe making facial expressions many of us would only prefer not to remember in our lives. If you can get over that, you will find this the inevitable, chuckle fest that only Derren can provide. A guide for the cynical ‘I told you sos’ in the world. A delight. I loved it, albeit irritatingly.
I wish I had had the chance decades ago to tell him that his purple trousers didn’t suit him. That would have made me happy... keep making us feel human and normal, Derren.

Great wee listen
I have listened to Happy and then bought the book as its something I think is good to refer back to. This has taken the best bits (I think) and given you chance to hear it condensed. it is really short which is the point. so at under 2 hours you are not getting much of a listen, however I would definitely listen again and thoroughly recommend.

A MUST READ
Derren is a bit of a hero of mine. The story telling, showmanship and ways of thinking all make for an incredible human. This beautifully written almost guide book, is a must read and I’d encourage you to gift it to as many of your loved ones as possible for them to also enjoy. With Derren as the narrator you truely become immersed in the words, and the complex becomes simple. This book comes highly recommended!

Simply wonderful
After listening to the fist book (a couple of times) I’m very happy with this second, more condensed book. Every now and then I read this book and find that a different part of the book lights up and is more fitting to my current state. The guidance provided is helpful and friendly, and I enjoy the results of every bit of stoicism that is offered in this book
