Publisher's Summary

In A Foolish Voyage, Neil Hawkesford gives us a remarkable tale not just about sailing but about life. Good times and bad. Here we learn what happens at the very limits of physical, emotional, and mental endurance. Here we also learn how personal tragedy can lead to a life-changing discovery, the realization that hidden deep inside all of us is the perseverance and passion needed for achieving life's greatest goals.

Perfect audiobook for sailors

The narration was spot on and the story itself wonderful! Even better is that it’s not too long a book so can be enjoyed in a week or so without losing interest at all! Two thumbs up!

Exceptional

What a beautifully human story. Neil’s story and perspective is so true it is almost painful to read. I cannot say enough positive things about this book, sincerely. Everyone should read it...and do listen to chapters 21-23 twice. You’ll be the better for it.
Wonderful narration as well.

This may turn out to be life changing.

This is a book that will likely resonate with those of us dreaming of escaping the rat race. With this tale as an example some of us may well accomplish an escape. Hours of engaging journey await you in this book but the part that will make it worth your rubles will be the afterword. I've listened to it a few times now and it brings watery frustration to my eyes each time. It make apparent the invisible walls of the trap we all know we live in yet rarely directly examine. This is a story of glorious optimism, failures, loss, and eventual escape.

Pathway to an authentic life

Ever wonder if there is more to life? Great story to make you think about your own journey. This book challenges me to expect more from my future and to take the leap of faith to trust my dreams and instincts. Really enjoyed this book.

Exciting, philosophical and moving.

This is a relatively short book, but none the worse for that, packed as it is with moments of hope, excitement, pathos, tear wrenching sadness and ultimately deliverance. Whatever stage of our journeys we are on in our love of the sea, there is something all of us will recognize in here, even inexperienced sailors like myself who spend more time on land dreaming than on the water living. For us dreamers, this book really hits the spot.

Engaging Sea Tale

The best books I have ever read seem to be about the sea. The drama of man or woman against the immensity of the Ocean is true adventure. I loved Neil's honest account of his ambitious project to master seamanship and sailing. He shares the mechanics and misgivings , while he takes us along for a great sail.

A great listen and a reminder of sailing happiness

Neil's account of how he found happiness owning and caring for a small sailing boat is a motivating reminder of how little we really need in life to become happy.
