Most authors' bios are a little stodgy, so I am going to go casual. I sincerely appreciate your interest in my work. By being here, I assume you want to know more “about me.” To put it simply, I am a Gen-X, fifty-five-year-old white man with a wife and family. We live in the suburbs and go to church. We are educated, work white collar jobs, and always seem to feel the sting of economic downturns worse than most. Many years ago, I worked as a publisher and consultant in Washington but lived in Hurricane, West Virginia. As the editor of a small defense journal, I was afforded the opportunity to interview service secretaries, members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, congressmen, senators, governors, defense industry executives, hundreds of soldiers, marines, airmen, and even a presidential candidate or two. On some days, I’d be doing a one-on-one interview with Bush or McCain inside the beltway, and seven hours later I was scooping dog poop out of the yard and taking out the trash at my home in the heart of Appalachia. It was an interesting life. Over the past thirty years, I've had my hands in a little bit of everything. I've written three novels and a nonfiction book on entrepreneurship, along with countless articles and short stories. I’ve ghostwritten memoirs and family histories for some pretty distinguished people. My words have popped up in all sorts of places—from national newspapers and magazines to digital news outlets. I've also spent a lot of time behind the scenes producing digital media, podcasts, and documentary films, and I've even done some on-air work for TV and radio. Every now and then, I'll go a little crazy and teach history or entrepreneurship at the university level or jump into political consulting before I come back to my senses. In 2012, I took a break to spend some time in the financial services industry, but after five years as a financial advisor in a large Wall Street firm, I realized that I had made a mistake and returned to what I do best; telling stories through the written word. I have been fortunate to find ghostwriting clients and investors for my various novels since then. This has allowed me to write full time. I thank God for that every day. The stories I write describe the life of the unseen person and forgotten eras. I try to create authentic characters that humanize history and reveal the overlooked man or woman. I am passionate about getting the details right. So, that’s who I am. Thanks again for reading my work. Your interest is truly humbling. Feel free to reach out anytime. Z
