Yvette Long is the founder and Executive Director of Platinum Minds, a New Jersey based non-profit that provides leadership training to academically gifted young men in inner-city communities. African American History: The Untold Stories, a necessary and illuminating text on African American history, is her newest work. Her first book, Aspire to Excellence: Guidepoints for a Young Man’s Path to Making Good Decisions was published in 2013. Ms. Long has dedicated her career to guiding gifted young men to become leaders in their communities. In her newest work, she endeavors to reconnect African American students with their remarkable history by emphasizing the common ground that all Americans share. Through her work Ms. Long intends to ratify student’s positive perceptions of themselves and their history in an effort to make them exceptionally successful in school and life.
