For decades within Fairfax County Public Schools, Vivian Jewell has posed as a teacher, but she has ended up learning more from her students’ candor, insight, and wit than they have learned from her. Vivian Jewell studied English Literature at The University of Virginia where she graduated with high distinction and studied Medieval and Renaissance Studies at Oxford. Her poetry has appeared in The Virginia Literary Review, The Kindred Spirit, and The English Journal. This is her first novel. Vivian originally went into teaching believing that the career would give her the opportunity to write but quickly discovered that she adored her students too much to short-change their writing lessons by working on her own craft. Vivian devoted herself obsessively to teaching until a pandemic shut-down schools and Vivian decided to amuse herself by writing some stories. No one was more surprised than she when one of those stories got a mind of its own and decided to grow up and become a novel. Vivian has been equally overjoyed and startled by Dani’s willingness to commandeer her own story. Vivian would love to discuss with readers the issues that are brought up by this novel.
