Victress Hitchcock grew up in London, Paris and Madrid as the daughter of a diplomat. After graduating from the London Film School in 1972, she embarked on a 45-year career as a filmmaker, writing, directing, editing and producing award winning documentary and educational films, which took her to challenging communities across the United States and as far away as Tibet. After retiring from filmmaking, she began writing full time – poetry, creative non-fiction and screenplays. In 2019, she took a big leap and began writing a memoir. Four years later, A Tree With My Name On It: Finding a Way Home was finished and in the fall of 2023, it was picked up by Bold Story Press. Victress teaches writing and contemplation workshops, travels and spends time with her children and grandchildren. She is a long-time meditator in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and was ordained as a Buddhist teacher in 2013.
