Toni Haas is an award-winning artist, illustrator, and children's author whose lifelong passion for storytelling began in the San Bernardino Mountains of Southern California. As a little girl, Toni's parents transformed a room in their home into a play library for her and her siblings. Together they created handwritten checkout cards inside every book, pretending to run their very own neighborhood library. That magical space sparked a love of books that would shape her future. By the age of five, Toni was already creating her own picture books—drawing every illustration by hand, stapling the pages together, and proudly sharing her stories with family. Her imagination, love of art, and passion for books have never faded. Today, Toni combines her love of painting, illustration, and local history to create beautifully illustrated children's books that inspire curiosity, adventure, and a love of learning. She is both the author and illustrator of Goodnight Surf City and the illustrator and co-creator of the Hidden History Explorers children's book series with historian Chris Epting, bringing history to life for young readers through colorful artwork and engaging storytelling. A longtime Huntington Beach resident, Toni has called Surf City home since 1989. Her artwork celebrates the beauty, history, and spirit of her community. In 2026, she was selected as one of the winning artists in Huntington Beach's USA 250 Banner Competition, with her artwork displayed in downtown Huntington Beach as part of the city's America 250 celebration. When she isn't illustrating or writing, Toni enjoys spending time with her family, exploring California's beaches and historic places, photographing local events, and finding inspiration in everyday adventures. She hopes every book she creates encourages children to dream big, ask questions, explore their communities, and discover the joy that can be found in both books and imagination. She believes some of life's greatest adventures begin with turning the very first page.
