Tom Brand is a storyteller at heart. A veteran farm broadcaster, lifelong advocate for rural communities, and a Missouri farm kid who never quite outgrew the stories that shaped him, Tom has spent his life capturing the voices, values, and humor of country life. Raised in northwest Missouri, Tom learned life’s lessons in places where chores came before cartoons, livestock had more personality than most politicians, and grit wasn’t optional — it was expected. Those roots planted a love for storytelling that followed him into a respected broadcasting career with the Brownfield Network in Jefferson City, KMA in Shenandoah, and KFEQ in St. Joseph. He later served as Executive Director of the National Association of Farm Broadcasting, where he worked to elevate the voices of rural America and highlight the enduring power of farm radio. Tom’s debut book, Welts on Your Butt a Calf Could Suck: Reflections on Faith, Family, and a Farm Kid’s Life, is a collection of humorous, heartfelt, and sometimes humbling stories drawn from his upbringing and career. With warmth and wit, he reminds readers that the best stories are often the ones closest to home. His newest release, I Never Heard of Johnny Fry, is a children’s book that brings the history and imagination of the Pony Express to life through the eyes of a boy and his grandpa. It combines historical roots with playful storytelling to spark curiosity in young readers while connecting families to the spirit of St. Joseph, Missouri. When he’s not writing or speaking, Tom serves as Director of the St. Joseph Community Alliance, where he works with civic leaders to strengthen and grow his hometown. He also continues to write a weekly column for the Nodaway News Leader, sharing reflections on faith, family, and rural life. At home, Tom enjoys time with his wife Beth, and a growing circle of grandchildren. He finds joy in the simple things — a quiet morning, a hymn sung with conviction, a baseball game under the lights, or a glass of real lemonade on a hot day. Through it all, his goal is simple: to tell stories that make you smile, think, and remember.
