Tom Bellinson has spent nearly 45 years in the technology industry... long enough to have seen fads rise, fall, return ironically, and fall again. Over the decades he has worn more hats than most startups have employees: salesperson, systems engineer, software developer,  chief information officer, business process consultant, and vice president at an enterprise software firm. Tom was also a successful founder of one of Michigan’s very first internet companies where he had a nice successful exit. If there’s a role in tech, Tom has probably done it, fixed it, or improved it — sometimes all on the same Tuesday. His career has equipped him with a near-superhuman ability to connect with almost anyone in business or technology. Developers trust him, executives listen to him, and sales teams claim he “gets them,” which may be his rarest achievement of all. For much of the past decade, Tom has been serving as a Scrum Master and Agile coach, guiding two major organizations through their Agile evolution. He first worked with the University of Michigan Medical School and later with ITHAKA, makers of JSTOR. Along the way, he became a fixture in the Agile community — a proud member of the Agile Groupies — and a regular speaker at conferences including the well-known Agile & Beyond in Detroit. He’s also a prolific writer, producing articles filled with insight, practicality, and the occasional dad joke slipped in for flavor. Tom’s core belief is refreshingly human: every organization must discover its own Agile path, every organization must design its own Intentional Culture. No cookie-cutter frameworks. No forced ceremonies. No Agile-by-the-book unless the book actually helps. Instead, Tom helps teams maximize customer value by building on their existing strengths and uncovering the biggest opportunities for improvement. Then he helps them tackle those opportunities with clarity, courage, and — ideally — a sense of humor. When he’s not coaching teams or rewriting the laws of workplace sanity, Tom can often be found indulging his other lifelong passion: music. He is a musician frequently spotted jamming with friends or performing with his band, proving once again that rhythm, flow, and collaboration aren’t just Agile principles — they’re a way of life.
