Tiriq R. Callaway is an Atlantic City, New Jersey native who also credits Pleasantville, New Jersey as the town that raised him. He refers to his hometown as “Atlantic-Ville,” a name he coined by combining the two cities together. As a young kid growing up in the inner city, Tiriq used writing as an outlet to express his feelings and experiences, not realizing the gift he had. While in graduate school in 2013, Tiriq filmed and directed his first documentary entitled "I'm Only Human" which brought awareness to the many injustices in the prison system. He wrote a poem ("What Is Justice") for the film that was recognized and published in The New Social Worker Magazine. Soon after completing his degree in social work, he self-published his first novel, A Diamond In God's Dirt, a memoir about his life. The message of the book is to defy your past for a prosperous future, not allowing those past circumstances to define you negatively, but to use those experiences to make you a better person today. Tiriq continues to gain daily inspiration from the world and his personal experiences. He writes with a purpose, and intimately expresses his thoughts and beliefs, and aims to make a personal connection with people to spread more hope, happiness, love, and laughter every day.
