Tequilla'Chante´ is a Philadelphia native whose passion for writing began as early as she can recall and was recognized as early as the 2nd grade, when she won a school wide writing contest (yes, amongst 1st - 8th graders). Her elementary school principal was so astounded that she personally emphasized to her mother that she should nurture Tequilla's gift. From that moment, Tequilla went from passing composition books of handwritten stories around 7th grade classrooms to writing & directing plays for Philadelphia's NAACP Youth Council and becoming a published poet while attending Temple Universities' Temple Writing academy all before that age of 18. Her passions led her to furthering her studies at Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD), graduating with her B.F.A. in Dramatic Writing from the Film School. From then to the present, she uses her gift to write stories that reflect the world around her, giving visibility to the overlooked and understanding to the misrepresented. Tequilla creates dynamic layers of existence within her characters and stories that allow people to see themselves and others in the most human ways possible. Her faith in & relationship with GOD fuels her desire to use art to instigate growth, healing, and reconciliation of the parts of humanity we look away from in shame or judge through self-righteousness and ignorance. Believing that the best way to help people, is by making them feel seen and thus safe enough to acknowledge what needs to change. All while celebrating and amplifying the beauty amongst the chaos, because as she often says, "Two things can be true at the same time".
