T.J. Menn was born in Carthage, IL and grew up helping his family raise grain and livestock on the farm. He graduated high school in May 2001, and was attending West Point on 9/11. He graduated from the Academy, started flight school, and married his wife Jenn in 2005. After a 15 month deployment to Iraq, T.J. and Jenn welcomed their first foster children into their home. In August of 2013, T.J. and Jenn moved to Cambridge, MA where they both earned Masters degrees from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. In 2015, the couple moved to West Point, where T.J. teaches Economics in the Social Sciences Department. They continue to open their home to foster children.
