Sylvie Vanhoozer was born and raised in Provence, France. She and her husband lived in England and Scotland for twelve years before moving to the American Midwest with their two daughters. A certified botanic artist and retired French teacher, she now focuses her attention on her writing and art, inspired in part by the various places which she has called home. She is the author of The Art of Living in Season: A Year of Reflections for Everyday Saints (IVP, 2024) and The Art of Living in Advent: 28 days of Joyful Reflections (IVP, 2025). When not at her desk, she may be found gardening, baking, reading, doing needlework, singing French folk songs, or lingering at table with family and friends. She sees herself as a place maker using pen, watercolor, needles, trowel, teapot, or soup tureen – to cultivate whoever happens to be growing in her vicinity. Her husband, Kevin Vanhoozer, claims to have never seen her bored during their forty-plus years of marriage. She believes in and practices the art de vivre: the art of living in season, and in place.
