Stewart Blackburn is a writer and teacher whose focus is on helping and encouraging people’s journey home to themselves. He is the author of The Skills of Pleasure: Crafting the Life You Want and It’s Time to Come Home: With Kindness and Compassion We Come Back to Ourselves, plus dozens of articles on shamanism, pleasure, and consciousness. He maintains a healing and teaching practice at his home in the jungle on the island of Hawaii. Stewart is a trained professional chef with a Master’s Degree in Food Science who has transitioned into a teacher, counselor, and mentor to those seeking more peace in their inner world. He draws upon his extensive studies of tantra, Buddhism, the mystical paths of the world, and wisdom from anywhere else that resonates with him. The underlying messages of his books are: a) that our own happiness is not something to be found, but something that we can create, b) that we do that by treating ourselves gently with kindness and compassion, c) that by paying attention to the thoughts and feelings that we create our lives with, we gain confidence and competence, and d) that by practicing the skills involved with pleasure and self-love, we can develop increasing levels of life mastery. When he was asked what inspires his books, he said, "Once I started to become aware of the incredible power of the mind, I kept noticing that most of the people I encountered were not only not happy, but they were unhappy primarily because they didn't understand how they were making themselves miserable. I was motivated to dig deeper and see what I could possibly do to change that. Developing and teaching The Skills of Pleasure is one way of contributing to the well-being of the world. Showing a pathway to self-realization in It's Time to Come Home is another.
