I am a kidney specialist with over 40 years taking care of kidney patients at the VA Hospital in Columbia SC. I am very much a patients focused Doc. To me, I will do whatever I can to get the best care for my kidney patients. Sometimes to do this, I may have to step on some other folks toes, but I am always prepared to take the heat if I feel my patient will benefit. That is what this book is about. I call out things that are done often for financial or other reasons that will not benefit my patients. There are certain widely accepted ways to manage kidney patients that GP's and even some kidney specialists are not doing. I want the reader to learn what works so that they can be sure they are getting these treatments-the book will provide you with stuff to discuss with your own kidney doc to be sure you don't go on dialysis too soon and that you get what you need to live a long, healthy life.
