About Steven Robertson
Steven Robertson is an author, educator, mentor, transformational speaker, executive coach, and purpose-driven leadership strategist committed to empowering potential, advancing opportunity, and helping people live and lead with purpose.
For more than 30 years, Steven has worked at the intersection of education, college access, mentoring, leadership development, faith, and community transformation. A first-generation college graduate, he has devoted his career to helping people recognize their potential, overcome barriers, develop their leadership, and move toward lives of greater purpose and impact.
Steven currently serves as Associate Director of Educational Opportunity Program and Pre-College Programs at Marquette University, where he helps lead efforts that expand access to higher education and prepare first-generation and underserved students for college success. His professional journey includes more than two decades of leadership in federally funded college-access and student-support programs, as well as five years of service as a high school president and principal.
His leadership experience extends beyond education. Steven has served as a nonprofit strategist, leadership trainer, mentor, executive coach, youth pastor, and associate minister. With more than three decades of ministry and leadership experience, he has developed the ability to communicate and lead effectively in both universal professional environments and faith-based settings.
Steven is a Maxwell Leadership Certified Team Executive Director and is trained in leadership development, coaching, communication, behavioral assessment, and personal growth. His approach combines practical leadership experience, mentoring, education, lived experience, proven principles, and—when serving faith-based audiences—biblical wisdom and spiritual formation.
Steven is the founder of Steps On Purpose™, a growing purpose, leadership, mentoring, and personal-development ecosystem designed to serve people across both universal and faith-based settings. Through books, curricula, coaching, speaking, training, workshops, and leadership-development resources, Steps On Purpose™ helps individuals and organizations discover purpose, develop potential, move with intention, lead with impact, and multiply what has been placed within them.
The ecosystem intentionally has both universal and faith-based expressions. Steven develops practical, accessible resources for educational institutions, nonprofits, businesses, community organizations, leaders, mentors, professionals, and emerging leaders, while also creating distinctly faith-centered resources for churches, ministries, and individuals seeking biblical approaches to purpose, leadership, growth, and spiritual development.
His growing body of work reflects those different dimensions of purpose.
In Mentoring on Purpose™: Develop People. Build Leaders. Multiply Impact., Steven challenges readers to move beyond accidental mentoring and become intentional developers of people. Through his SEE → SAY → SUPPORT → RELEASE → MULTIPLY framework, he provides a practical pathway for recognizing potential, speaking to what people can become, supporting their development, entrusting them with meaningful responsibility, and ultimately preparing them to develop others.
In Becoming on Purpose, Steven turns the lens inward, exploring identity, faith, grace, renewed thinking, intentional choices, personal growth, and the lifelong process of becoming who God created us to be. The book reinforces a central conviction of Steven’s work: purpose is not only about what we accomplish; it is also about who we are becoming along the way.
RUN • WIN • IMPACT™ moves the purpose conversation from intention to action. Offered in both faith-based and universal editions, the books help readers move with purpose, remain aligned with their vision and values, finish with focus, and turn potential into meaningful impact. The two editions allow the core principles to serve readers in churches and ministries as well as schools, universities, nonprofits, professional organizations, leadership programs, and other community settings.
In Purpose in Every Step, Steven explores the faith-centered journey of discovering the Father’s love, walking with Jesus, and recognizing purpose in the everyday steps of life. His faith-centered writing also includes Prayer Formed by the Word of God, which encourages believers to build a prayer life grounded in Scripture, grace, and confidence in God.
Across his writing and leadership work, mentoring remains especially important to Steven. He believes mentoring is more than giving advice—it is intentionally seeing potential, speaking life, providing support, creating opportunity, releasing responsibility, and developing people who can eventually develop others.
His own story deeply informs that conviction. As a first-generation college graduate who experienced the life-changing power of education, opportunity, encouragement, and caring adults, Steven understands what can happen when someone sees possibilities in another person that they may not yet see in themselves.
That belief connects Steven’s work across education, leadership, mentoring, ministry, coaching, and writing. Whether the setting is a university, nonprofit organization, leadership team, community, church, conference, classroom, or mentoring relationship, his goal remains consistent: help people recognize what is possible, develop what has been placed within them, and take their next step on purpose.
Whether writing, teaching, mentoring, coaching, training, or speaking, Steven carries one consistent message:
You were created with purpose. Your life has significance. And every step matters when it is taken on purpose.
