Steve Rothschild is a successful businessman and social entrepreneur. He was born in London, England where his father was stationed during World War II. He was raised in Baltimore and educated in Pennsylvania where he graduated from the Wharton Graduate School, University of Penna. with an MBA. He joined General Mills as a marketing assistant and rose steadily to launch Yoplait U.S.A. as its first President. He later was promoted to Executive Vice President of General Mills where he was responsible for International operations and various domestic subsidiaries like Yoplait, Betty Crocker and Gorton's Seafoods. He also served on the corporations foundation board where his interest in non profit activies was enhanced. After a successful business career Steve left General Mills and founded Twin Cities RISE!, an award winning anti-poverty, workforce program that serves the hard to employ- especially African Ameriican men with criminal records. TCR!'s results have been outstanding. Steve also founded Invest in Outcomes which created the Human Capital Performance Bond, a new financial instrument being piloted in Minnesota to raise private capital for high performing social service nonprofits. Steve has served on numerous for-profit and non profit boards including Donaldson Corporation, Greater Twin Cities United Way, The Humphrey School of Public Affairs and American Public Media. He was elected an ASHOKA Fellow for his social enterprise work. Steve writes about the the most critical principles that he has witnessed and employed in his business and social enterprise careers that can help any organization succeed. He illustrates the principles with stories from exemplary social enterprises from around the world.
