I was born in Omaha and raised in nearby Bellevue, Nebraska. I was blessed with parents who let me read what I wanted (or maybe didn't know what I was reading) and as much as I wanted. After graduating from Bellevue Senior High School, I made my way through Yale College and Columbia Law School. Along the way, I've been a secretary, a saloon singer, a lawyer, a fast-food fry cook, a recording artist, a bakery worker, a legal educator, a warehouse teamster, a radio parodist, and a senior executive with a New York Stock Exchange company. You'll notice that "author" is not on that list. I have studied fiction writing with some noted writers and editors, all of whom encouraged me, but I didn't really get rolling in producing material I was willing to ask others to spend their time to read until I published WINDY CITY WILD! in 2021 and IT STARTED LIKE THIS in 2022. A couple of rom-coms to loosen up the storytelling muscles. Then came the very different THE GREATEST NOEL: A Fantasy of the First Christmas (2022), a reimagination of the Gospel Nativity accounts as an adventure story with danger, romance, and humor -- and portraying the Christmas actors as ordinary human beings caught up in extraordinary events. I've also massaged that story into a screenplay; we'll see about that. My current project is WORK: A Killing, where the hardest hard-boiled meets the darkest noir in a tale of a mob associate's first murder. Down the road is some non-fiction philosophy that will tell everyone what they should do. Outside interests? If one is a writer, engaging in other interests means one is not writing. And if one seeks to live the writing life, whether a howling success with tours and movies, or only a hobby with a six-figure Amazon ranking, that life is too short not to spend it writing.
