Stephen Robert Cass is a worship leader, musician, songwriter, and inspirational speaker. He's the author of How to Be a Worship Songwriter, Worship Songs and the Law: How Churches Stay Legal and How Songwriters Get Paid, The 5 Steps to Get Your Songs Heard, The 5 Keys to a Clear Mix, and Lead Worshipers: How to Build a Worship Team. At 12 years old, he taught himself to play guitar and has been playing and singing in church since 1970. He helped to plant the Bridge Covenant Church in Gilbert, AZ as the worship pastor. He has over 120 songs in his catalog including 70+ worship songs at Christian Copyright Licensing, Int'l (under the Solid Walnut Music label). He has 14 album projects to his credit as a solo artist, guest musician, or producer (stephenrobertcass.com/discography). In the late '90s through the first few years of 2000, he formed an independent record label, Solid Walnut Music, that featured his solo albums as well as those from other songwriters and artist that he signed to the label. They shipped their music to Christian radio stations in fifteen countries. He had the privilege of being one of the first people to ever play guitar in a Catholic church in 1970. This was a time when the Vatican II council updated how church was conducted. The altar was turned toward the people and the priest said the Mass in the local language rather than Latin. He bought a book of chords and practiced for three weeks, then joined with the guitar group at his church at the age of 12. The Catholic Diocese of Des Moines hired him as a full-time traveling musician when he was 18. He began playing and singing for non-denominational churches at the age of 37, becoming a worship leader and administrator. While living in Arizona and without worship leader duties, he's traveled to various churches as a musician for hire playing lead, acoustic, and bass guitars. His current passion is writing books about congregational songwriting and empowering songwriters to take action.
